Wow. First of all, to ANYONE who bothers to read this, thank you! Now, where to begin? I guess I should recap some things that are going on in my life at the moment.
I'll start from the Summer. So, this year has been a damn busy one. Last May (2012) I handed in the final piece of work for my degree at Kingston University. Before I knew it, a month and a half had passed already and I was working in Stratford. I bet you can guess why, but I'm going to tell you anyway. I was working for the Olympic Broadcasting Service on three different sites. Well, that was the plan. Actually due to an administration error, I was hired two weeks before my sites were even finished yet. What did I do you ask? Well naturally, I kicked up a storm and said I can't afford to not work, so what are you going to do about it? That being Thursday 5th, they told me to go home, enjoy a nice 4 day weekend and they would find me something by Monday. So Monday comes around and the other 3 guys who also got messed around with me got put to work with the Cabling Team - a German guy from a company called Mahlzeit. HE was damn cool. I learned a lot of things about running cables, making cables and what does what. Also, because of this it meant that I was able to go into almost every studio from every country as they still had no data/video/audio coming through. Hell, some of the studios didn't even have a crew or equipment until two days before they were due to start (Jamaica I'm looking at you). Anyway, like all good things, that two week period came to an end and I was finally able to see my compound, the Velodrome, BMX arena and Basketball stadium. I wasn't actually contracted for the Basketball but being that no one else was there, me and my team (the other three lads) got tucked in. Long story short, we worked our asses off for another 2 (or was it 3 weeks) and our final 2 days were at Downhill Mountain Biking event. I've never been so happy to get up at 5AM for work in my life. I might have been pulling 8-12 hour days depending on the day too, but I loved it. The only problem was, my crew and I....work too damn hard! We actually ran out of jobs to do! So, I got a transfer from the Utilities position into the BIO (Broadcast Information Office) role to fill up sometime. I would only have told them I was bored otherwise ;).After that, I had a 2 week vacation. I didn't go anywhere, but I got to know my new apartment a little bit. It's ok. My next job was to derig the Olympic Stadium, Olympic Swimming Pool and Common Domains. That was pretty fascinating watching it all come back down again. A lot of it has been shipped to Rio now to get them going. Again, the only problem is we ran out of work so we had to slow down XD. That was my September.October was horrible. I was waiting on getting paid for September but of course that wouldn't come until near the end of the month. I had 3 weeks with no money (I spent a lot of the money I earned at the Olympics on my flat - rent/deposit/a bed etc.). I couldn't even afford to go to any interviews. However, the end of October did see me begin my next step of motorcycle riding. In the UK (for those who don't know/aren't from the UK) you have to do a test called the Compulsory Bike Training (CBT for short). This is valid for two years and allows you to ride up to a 125CC bike so long as you do not take any passengers and stay off the motorways. I loved my old bike but I haven't ridden it in so long since I came off it. Anyway, my CBT was due to expire in January 2013. If I wanted to keep riding I had two choices. Repeat the CBT or do the next test and get a full licence. This is split into two parts, Module 1 and Module 2 (A1 and A2 respectively). I passed the A1 first time - slow riding skills and emergency stops, off road skills. Unfortunately I failed A2 on the last mile. The worst thing was knowing EXACTLY what I did as I did it! However, I got a retest booked and when that came around I passed it like a BOSS. I can't tell you how I felt. I thought I had failed for sure but walking back into the examiners office and him telling me "I'm pleased to say you passed" was just such an amazing feeling! So, with that out of my way, I was back on the hunt for work. I found you guys at moddb, I got involved with some voice acting, sound designing (though I'm not sure what's happening with that gig, it seems to have died) and I also got me a job sound designing, composing, sound directing and light directing for the Identity Drama School in Hackney, London. It's nearly at an end now actually. One more show next week, December 17th. I also got involved with VO work for a few other ventures. OH. HOW COULD I FORGET? Near the end of September I was accepted for an internship at the most awesome recording and post-production studio Galaxy Studios in Belgium. So that starts in February. I'm excited for that, an amazing 3-month working vacation is how I'm looking at that. Then I return to my life back in the UK, unless the world throws anything else my way.So that's where I'm at, at the moment. Like the title says, I've been busy. I'm sure there is probably more I could write, but I don't want to bore you guys.Peace OutA.
