I've been troubled lately.

On one hand I like the two models (CuteRobo and Herbert the Snail) done so far. They both came out better than I was expecting, however I'm left feeling unsatisfied with them.

They both came out better than I was expecting, however I'm left feeling somewhat unsatisfied with them.

The models don't really scream low poly enough to make it look like that was an intentional design decision. Almost looks like I got stuck between low and high poly, and perhaps I did, I've got a habit of over complicating things at times.

They also lack in an obvious and common art style that sufficiently unites them. To be fair I didn't have an art style in mind at the start, I was just practicing using Blender.

The models also take too long to build for me, I want something I can whip up at a much faster rate (~2hrs per model)

So I've taken some time to think about some solutions to these issues of models, time and style.

These new models will defiantly need some textures to bring them to life.

See below for the tests

These two simple models took 1.5 hours to complete, including the rigging and animation. This is a big time saving compared to the 2-4 hours spent per previous model.

As you can see, I opted for a "block head" style of model which seems to go nicely with the overall theme of this game.

So far so good, these models share a common style and look like they go together.

Will need textures before they have a chance of coming to life, wish me luck with that step.

Update

Done some basic testing, here it is
