Oh Desura. I only come here to play games I cannot play on Steam. You might wonder why. The reasons are simple, really.

1) The UX is absolutely cluttered, wretched, and sometimes it's really hard to navigate.
2) UX Issues aside, a lot of stuff (at least...in my opinion) has no coherent pricing patterns. I would come here if I saw the same value pricing patterns I see elsewhere.
3) I figured I would give Desura another chance, seeing as I obtained Super Crossfire. I was going to post to this blog some nifty stuff, only to realize you have some seriously draconian "rules" for blog posting. Spelling errors? Really? While I like having spelling error free stuff...that is such a broad brush I cannot even begin to tell you how offensive that is. Also, who decides what's unique, original and relevant on Desura? What do you consider "professional"?

In the end, it seems you're all about control, which in many ways is the antithesis of indie development. As a matter of fact...I think I'll go and just install Super Crossfire outside of Desura, and not give you the extra metric.

Sad really. Steam does need alternatives. I don't see Desura as being such an alternative. You have much to learn, and far to go. But, this is just my unique, relevant (to me) and considered opinion. =)

Azrael.

Desura is actually heavily modding oriented, if you don't mind me saying so. It's synchronized with the site Mod Database, so everything posted there appears on Desura and vice versa.

Desura's not a steam-killer, but I think you should be kinder. The rules are harsh to scare off trolls and facebook types. You won't get struck by lightning for bad spelling and punctuation. But Desura/ModdB is trying to foster a development community atmosphere.

If you don't like Desura's layout, but want to blog and post on user groups and forums, try logging into ModdB using your desura account details. ModdB has a somewhat different layout. I prefer it, frankly.
