I'm looking to grow a volunteer based development team on iAkarra Project (game group here on moddb). As this is a no pay, volunteer job posting: I don't have much of a knowledge prerequisite or criteria for potential applicants at this point. I expect you to have some aqueduct experience in .NET and javascript, particularly with byte and blob types. The 'job' will primary be: working on, or toward, the development and collaboration of WiA:Rebirth.

WiA:Rebirth is a stand alone game; it is not a mod. The development on the game is primarly refactoring of an existing game and source. The game is a nostalgic 2-D MMORPG called Whispers In Akarra that was developed by Jens 'Jeb' Bergensten. The source of the original game (which didn't make it out of beta) is refreely available for use and modification. (more information on that can be found at oxeye studios)

The game server and editor utilities were originally programmed in Borland C++. They will be refactored, or compiled over to, .NET. The original server leveraged directx, in particular directplay, for the networking component of the game.

The client software, server, architecture, and platform are being completely refactored.

The targeted platform is the .NET language; However, the client software is intended to be decoupled. iAkarra Project, in scope, will produce a html5 web client to connect to the game server over websockets.

This project has been attempted by other people within the past 8-10 years. That's something to be said. I suppose I can only recommend you get a feel of the original by playing it.

If you're interested, follow the information on how to Apply. Feel free to join the open group iAkarra Project.. Also, you can find more information on the original game on the Facebook fan page.

To Apply

We'll discuss the matter in-game. Follow the instructions on iAkarra.net to connect to the live, original game shard.
