A single Star Destroyer was already a city unto itself and larger than old republic era warships by great margin. I'm starting to get the impression Disney just gave up and said screw it, "let's double it's size and make the First Order seem cooler than the Empire".

1. It's not economical, and after the fall of the Empire the First Order would have much more strained resources. So wasting money on ships twice as big as the old star destroyers and then to top it off using them to REPLACE all the old star destroyer class vessels would bring a war economy to it's knees.

2. If you thought the old star destroyers weren't already capable of the job they were built for, do consult the comics and lore. Where it is in fact stated a single star destroyer could be used to subjugate entire star systems. Why do you want to replace it? I can understand upgrading and modernizing armaments, but was there really a need to build a new model altogether? If it does the job, IT DOES THE JOB.

3. If it were a star dreadnought, then in my honest opinion Disney has no idea what the hell they're doing. Dreadnoughts, are not meant to be consisting entire fleets. Leading one perhaps with a Admiral, or guarding shipyards like Kuat. Which are majorly important to a military power to maintain war production.

Also, expect hope to have a breakdown and post again right after your image. I'm honestly wishing at this point he'd just be banned, but I suspect he's made alt accounts.

Well there are few counterargument to those:

1. We really don't know how many ISD are left and how many of them are in the hands of First Order (Not Imperial Remanent, that's a separate faction). It is likely that these ships are not replacing actual FS ships in service but rather is designed to be their next gen ship of the line.

2. These ships are described to having their own training facility for officers, pilots and even stromtroopers. The crew is stated to be literally raised in and trained on board the ships. And taking a page form the New BSG, it possibly has its own production facility on board for vehicles and other equipment. It is likely these ships are designed not to be straightforward warships, but as mobile starbase. This maybe because the FS is either lacks the resources to build multiple types of space installation along with new warships so they decided to have them in one package (Questionable choice). Or they did so for mobility and concealment as having mobile facilities ensures they can stay off the New Republic radar more effectively.

3. Well Disney clearly stated it's a line ship with bigger ships serving as command ship. What I want to discuss is technicality. It thing thing still fits in the Legends Star Destroyer category of just too damm big for that?

Given the times and strained resources after so much war and loss of territories I'd suspect they do have ISD's at least on outer rim territories that aren't as important.

Your second point has definite merit though I do agree this is a questionable choice putting so many eggs in one basket. That basically compounds the loss of a single vessel, as they've lost factories, training facilities, and their own mobile base for operations in a star system. While it is cool having everything in one package, it also means you'll lose a great deal if something goes wrong.

Honestly, I believe it's a new category unto itself. We're talking a new breed of warship meant to be a country/state unto itself now militarily speaking. Closest thing like it I can recall was the Final Imperium ultra star destroyer which the Emperor intended to use if finished to spread his will to other galaxies. Obviously, it would need tech to be a mobile factory and fleet base, even equipped with cloning facilities. These are more like a mini version of the Final Imperium.

They do operate ISD, along with a few other ships: Starwars.wikia.com

And true. Even the Executor wasn't this versatile.

I swear that is just a bellator class super star destroyer but smaller, and I am pretty sure the Imperial Remnant is no longer canon in Disney's little world of star wars so there for all of the former Imperator classes would be under first order or new republic control. Its also possible that any remaining Imperator classes also fell into the hands of powerful crime syndicates such as the hutts but then again I am sure Disney wouldn't allow that because of there narrow minded perception of how star wars should be. Which is a clear cut good guys vs clear cut generic bad guys.....no crime syndicates and no Imperial Remnant which would fight for the true restored Empire.

Nope Imperial Remnant is still there. It is nowhere as unified as the one in the Legends though, mostly independent warlords in control of some sectors and largely lacks the offensive capability of the old Empire.

And considering even the Legends did not allow crime syndicates to have access to something as powerful as ISD ( Errant Venture is the only notable exception, even then it was demilitarized) I do not see why Disney should start with that.

My point exactly even though the Errant Venture is the only case in legends. It still shows that legends has a little bit more life to it than Disney's garbage. The Imperial Remnant is still only considered legends on wookpedia is there any articles I can read to learn about the Imperial Remnant in the new canon as I cannot find any pertaining to surviving Imperial Loyalists

1. I agree. Wasting money researching and building ships that are basically just a larger version of a proven concept is stupid. Also, you'd assume the First Order would have a low manpower pool as most of their territory is uninhabited. Plus, they should be at war with some war lord in the Unknown Regions. There were probably plenty fighting each other and maybe the war spills over and the First Order has to start fighting there.

2. Exactly, proven concept.

3. Mhm.

It is too small to be a Super Star Destroyer !
Double or triple its size and it shall be one ;)

The Bellator would have been a much better (and cooler) choice for the mobil factory ship. Or the Pellaeon class of the legacy era.

Considering the sheer bulk of the thing, is thing thing a Star Destroyer or Star Dreadnought?

Also what is you overall opinion of this thing? IMHO its has a lot of wasted space and I kinda miss the iconic tall command towers.
