Bioware has just announced the new "Extended Cut" DLC.

Posted by Admiral-165 on Apr 5th, 2012

Just in time for the long weekend, Bioware has announced their plans on the new "Extended Cut" DLC planned for this Summer.

Blog.bioware.com

I'll let everyone read it and decide for themselves whether they like it or not. Below is my personal opinion on this.

After reading all of the bullet-points i honestly thought that they had made the right decision. I believe in the Indoctrination theory so it doesn't bother me that they aren't changing the endings, but simply adding to them. I would imagine though, that if i did not believe in Indoctrination that i would be angry now since the ending is a bit odd taking it for what it is.

Overall it doesn't matter i think, it is in fact irrelevant, because they have promised more cinematics and epilogue scenes to show expand on the ending and show the consequences of all your choices... I honestly believe that this will make the ending on-par with the other two games, maybe even better just for the fact that it IS the 'final' battle. Of course i AM assuming they are going to do the cinematics right... call me naive, but i don't think they will just be random clips of people fighting (I think the fan reaction shows what will happen if it is ;D)

Now for something that pissed me off a bit:

DARKLARKE wrote:Though we remain committed and are proud of the artistic choices we made in the main game, we are aware that there are some fans who would like more closure to Mass Effect 3.

Now, i've already mentioned how i don't mind 'artistic choices' but what I (and everyone else) is angry about is the fact that the ending did not show any consequences of your actions. The fact that they are going to fix this now, but still remain in denial about this fact is kind of pathetic to be honest. Also they are aware that "some fans" would like more closure? How about every fan... There are some people who say they like the ending based on it's artistic merits... which is fine, but as soon as you mention that nothing they did mattered in the rest of the series, they become just as angry as anyone else.

DARKLARKE wrote:Oh and it’s at no cost to you – the fan.

How could I not mention this? lol. Some others may disagree with me but I'll give Bioware one more chance just because of this (i'm assuming the endings will be good after this, if they aren't... then...)

Overall, i'm very glad that Bioware has listened to the fans, even if they do appear to be in a bit of denial as to WHY people disliked the endings. I don't believe that takes away anything from their intentions though, which are good overall I believe. I am also extremely proud of the fans! We have shown that we CAN fight back against these types of things. I believe this is a major victory for us, and I hope Bioware will keep this in mind before trying to screw us over in the future (again, call me naive :P)

So what does everyone else think of this? Are you willing to give Bioware another chance because of this? Do you think this DLC will be good? etc. etc.

Lol. More cinematics or not, I still think the ending is going to suck. Sure more eyecandy but it does not excuse that ridicoulus ending..

But... I guess they deserve another chance. After all its not like were uncivilised fanatics...

Really "some fans" ??? How about 99.99999...%

They should either make a new ending or make nothing at all, no one needs some ******** "extended" DLC where they only change some scenes and few phrases, they failed one way or another and they will never regain the respect they once had. I don't give a **** about their team’s artistic vision. From now on, i'm not giving a penny to Bioware till they cut all ties with EA. They can shove that free ******** DLC up their arse.

I partially agree. The endings were ****, I said that on the blind hope that Indoctrination is correct and the cinematics will just explain how he was indoctrinated and show the real ending. Of course, if indoc isn't true then what you're saying is right. ME is no place for space magic and god-children (unless you're indoctrinated :P)

Also even if this DLC is the best it possibly could be, you're right, they will never have the same respect they did. This is the single most stupidest move any game company has ever made; building up an epic trilogy around choices and then having the end be some generic crap.

Artistic vision is fine, it's what makes a game interesting. Choosing that over what the series is ALL ABOUT is different entirely. Also, and this is just my speculation, but i think the ME3 endings may have not involved the ENTIRE writing team (if you know what i mean...)

I read that and I seriously dislike the tone of that ******. Speaks to us as we are some stupid child that cries for candy it wouldn't deserve, them acting as they are our daddy and we should be eternally thankful for them giving us some.

They messed up hard with the franchise, now act all proud and narrow-minded. I can bear stupid amateurs but stupid and sassy amateurs are too much.

Too bad the dlc isn't expensive since I was planning to watch it on some video site.

Extended Cut my ***, least they should do is an Extended fix, best would be a total remake by someone entirely different.

Check deviant art. One person wrote a brilliant fourth-option ending that works completely within Bioware's confines. At this point, that person's fan ending is my ideal ending.

Else wise though... I am not only as a fan, but as someone who actually is making games, just disappointed by Bioware. This, along with some its key older people leaving to go indie, has changed my stance on their development studio entirely.

The pleasure is mine, you are welcome. Wow what a satisfying read. So near to the ending I was expecting and hoping for when I was still at beating the singleplayer. I find this to be of exceptional artistic worth and deserves to be proud of it.

I can find rest now, and sleep well knowing that in some alternate dimension ME did find this ending.

:-)

I overlooked a lot of stuff when i wrote this article, i have to admit.

Also i was going to address a lot more stuff that ****** me off in the blog, but i didn't want it to be too long (i just wanted this article to deliver the point concisely.) But i agree, the way they state things does **** me off a bit. The way they say the DLC is free, a douchey statment and totally unnecessary, i didn't say anything because i was happy it was free :P.

I also dislike how they keep mentioning all the great reviews ME3 got, as if any fan is going to give a **** about what the (bought) reviewers think...

Oh dear, when I heard about an extended ending DLC that was free for the fans I thought I might give BioWare one more chance but after reading this I'm not so sure anymore...
Somehow reading that made me more depressed.

I wonder, why does BioWare keep defending their "artistic integrity" when that obviously isn't working to keep their fans take them seriously.
It is as if they are one step behind everyone else thinking that listening to fans used to make them loved by fans and that defending their product is good as long as they believe in it. That's not how things work, you make a product for the consumer and since (most likely) the majority of fans and possibly even consumers dislike the ending, creating a completely new ending is fully justified.

Well, I don't believe in the indoctrination theory myself, or any theory for that matter. Haven't even got any myself either since that would just be grasping out for things in the dark.

I just hope for a miracle that BioWare will use the same space magic that explains the ending to completely change the way they think and create a new ending... yeah right, like that's gonna happen.

My theory is: Someone with a lot of power(Manager/director whatever) in the EA or his/hers son/daughter pulled this ending out of his/her *** and now he/she is forcing BioWare to say that this ending is "artistic" .

Given the way EA is acting this days, this is the only possible explanation I can see for all the Epic saga they ruined.

I wish it were that simple but speaking as someone who's been on development teams, sometimes you really do just get someone who will insistently want something even if every other member on the team says "No, that won't work".

The fact the first game's writer wasn't even involved in ME3 suggests very clearly that this wasn't the original plan. Even later drafts of ME3's story had similar but better and more concise endings that worked far more like the ME2 ending.

Bioware either had to cut most of the differentiating stuff or they just dropped the ball here. EA might very well have a hand in it but in the end it was Bioware's call, they're powerful enough a company to force something if they wanted to.

There was no original plan, none of the events of ME3 were considered when ME was made. Karpyshin even said that when he worked on ME he did not think of cerberus to play any major role in the future.

Yeah, the blog was just like the game. Good up till that final 5%. FU bioware, I am going back to playing ME2 and Dragon Age.

In my opinion they should change the ending's, give me a chance to go back to Thessia and purge the reapers so Liara and Shepard can have the famliy they dreamed of. Not some **** ending where they just blame indocranation. Thats not an ending, thats lazy writing. The only way Bio ware can redem them self's in my eye's is giving me a chance to beat the reapers without having to destroy the mass relays, with out having me abandon my crew and giving Shepard a chance to have a Famliy or go back to omega or something along those lines, either that or admit they ****** up and apologise
