Xenonauts is a PC strategy game due for release in 2013. It is a spiritual successor to the classic X-Com strategy games, putting the player in control of an organisation defending the world from an alien invasion. It is a grand strategy game that involves building and managing bases across the entire planet, controlling jet fighters and ground troops in battle against the alien forces, then researching captured extraterrestrial technology to unlock their secrets! Linux version uses WINE.
This gets a big golden 10.0 from me. As an avid X-Com player, I've always been looking for a more "up to date" remake - slowly they're cropping up, but Xenonauts is the best one I've played to date.
The graphics are astonishing and give off a very crisp and inviting feel. The extreme detail is quite clear when you're navigating the menus and looking at briefings or alerts.
It's unfair to "compare" Xenonauts to X-Com. Sure it takes the same formula, but so far in this alpha state, Xenonauts is already breaking away from the tried and true and giving you a new, refreshing isometric tactical simulator to date. I am sure we will all be blown away when the game gets the rest of its needed tweaks and becomes a full fledged game to play (Not that you can't do that already!)
