UGCK is an attempt of creating an old-school RPG engine capable of running

UGCK - Underworld Game Construction Kit, Demo v1.0
--------------------------------------------------
UGCK is an attempt of creating an old-school RPG engine capable of running
games similar to the classic Ultima Underworld games. This release ships with
a game module that tries to re-implement the original UW1 game, using as much
original data as possible. The module is not complete at this time and it is
not possible to play the game as such.
Eventually UGCK will ship with a series of tools and editors that will allow its
users to:
- Modify existing modules (for example to expand the original UW games).
- Create new artwork for the original UW games.
- Create completely new games in the same style as the UW games.
Once complete the hope is that UGCK can help start a MOD-community so we'll see
new and exciting adventures using the greate UW technology.

news!
UW1 controls:
-------------
Press 'ESC' to quit (no warnings!)
When in 'game mode' UGCK uses a control scheme like the one in the original UW1:
- To move either use the keyboard (ASWD / Arrow keys) or the mouse (still buggy).
- To tilt the camera press 1 or 3. To reset the tilt press 2.
- To jump press 'space' or 'J'. To do a standing jump forward press 'shift-J'.
- Right-click objects in the 3d-view to perform the currently selected action on it.
- Right-drag an object to perform the default action on it (pull a lever, open a door,
talk to a NPC etc.)
- Left-click on a container in inventory to open it. Drag an item to the icon above the
item grid to move it outside the container. Drag an item over a container to put the
item in it.
When in 'fly mode' the UGCK engine uses a "quake-style" control scheme:
- Use ASWD to move around and use Q and E to fly up and down.
- Use +/- to change map level.
What works in this release?
---------------------------
Well, bits and pieces of everything works but to mention some specific things to
look for:
- Most graphical features works, although there are some glitches.
- It is possible to talk to NPC's but not all dialogs are supported (for example
if the dialog tries to setup a barter the dialog will exit).
- Some triggers/traps works. Levers, pullchains, look-at descriptions, stairs,
teleports etc. will work
- Keys/locks works.
- Basic inventory handling is implemented
- The map works (it is not possible to add notes though)
- Gravestones displays correctly.
- Lever/button-based puzzles like the one in "Maze of Silas" on level 4 works.
- The "Bullfrog" puzzle works (level 4), The "Korianous' grave" puzzle (level 1) works.
- Some quest dialogs works (although it can be hard to get the required items without a
barter screen :)

My thanks go out to Michael Fink and Jim Cameron for their awesome work at decoding many
of the UW1 file formats and for being so willing to pool their knowledge with my own. I
could not have done this without their work!
