The Battle of the Somme symbolised the horrors of warfare in world war one. Follow orders, fight for your country, survive in rain soaked trenches and wait for the call; the call to chargeover no man's land to fight for freedom and liberation. Equipped with your arsenal of weaponry, make haste and overtake your enemies; watch over your brothers and god speed. As a soldier in The Somme you are challenged to overtake your enemy's forces. Team work dependency is key without it you will fall to feet of your foes. Listen out for orders from your commanding officer. Which role are you? You decide; from the Medic class and being able to haul wounded allies onto your shoulders to bandage them up in your trench to being an Officer, taking bird's eye view control to spot targets and mark them on your map to create devastation to your enemies forces with Artillery barrage.

Yes! That's epic! And very authentic, I must say.
cold day in 1914 a small group of Russia soldiers where sitting around a fire in the woods.
A frozen wind comes down and shivers them "I tell you" said the tallest one
"If I could I will make a small log house just for myself to keep this cold out!"
"Oh, Can you?" replied another
"I have done it before! Heh I will even put cash on it"
The tall lean fellow lent over and pulled out a small brown sack he kept under his belt. upon oping it he pulled out a small amount of cash. the officer laughed at the thin soldier and pulled out his wallet and put twice the amount,
"and for the extra that will be your food, eh?"
all the other soldiers where setting bets along the line.
Final goal make a small log house by the end of tomorrow!
the tall man went off in to the dark woods where he started cutting down tress by the second. 1 THump 2 THump 3 THUMP
they fell by his ax, soon a whole plot was all but knocked down trees.
after hours of work he took his shovel and used it to cleave the
branches off the logs, the near 7 foot man was throwing the branches over his shoulder into the near brush.
some of the soldiers would cheer him on.
"Comon fellow, I put cash on you and 2 bottles!" some would shout.
more men herd about the woods mans skills and added more to the bet. soon it was a forth the local military!
all through the night he cut and ran his ax. soon he was stacking and nailing, the house was in sight frame and all. it was not a big house but that was not part of the deal.
the officer knew his bet was in danger,
he did not fear losing money but losing honor from the other command.
when the time came on the last day to minute the Russians log house was made.
7 foot to the flat roof and 8 foot wide or so.
the officer in that time was shifted to the navy because of other means (honor) so the Tall man never got his share
his comrades gave him parts of there sharing but he turned them down. he combed his mustache downward as he picked himself up from a stump and walked into the hut and slammed it behind him. slept for 2 days before next time seeing him.
he was then known as "the shack man"
or his town name "the man who's pants are too short"
he did have the luck of living the war and moved back to his home Krasavino.
so far i cant find a name.

i like the model but it does not look like a russian soldier to me :(
You've never seen what a WW1 Russian soldier looks like then.
The model is pin-point accurate.
Hold on a sec,is this game expanding to the eastern front too?I thought it was only the battle of the Somme,and here we have a model of a russian soldier...
This game is about whole WW1, not just the battle of the Somme. There are plans to add french and austro-hungarian soldiers.
I would love to see some Austro-Hungarians and Ottomans.
The Austro-Italian front was the only front which had so much bloodshed that one side stopped firing altogther just so that the other side could collect their wounded and live another day. People say that Austrians are cold... peh
The name 'The Somme' is cover name for the game, because it sustained nearly 60,000 casualties, we felt it was an appropriate name to encompass the emotion of what we're trying to achieve. Eastern Front is confirmed.
