At E3 2016 this week, Serious Sam developer Croteam has announced a new entry in its long-running series of over-the-top first-person shooters. It’s called Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, and it’s a VR-exclusive designed for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
According to Croteam’s official announcement:
“The Earth Defense Force is crumbling under the crushing offensive of Mental and his legions of savage warriors and beasts. Now the galaxy’s last hope must battle from planet to planet – piling up and upgrading his arsenal along the way – and lay waste to massive alien swarms under Mental’s control… All in first-person, all in virtual reality!”
As Sam, players will begin aboard their battlecruiser, the Saratoga, and upgrade their weapons at the ships armoury before selecting a mission. Afterwards, they’re launched down to the planet and must battle through hordes of both new and familiar enemies to defeat a giant boss at the end. Currently 2 planets are available, though Croteam expects to add more as the game’s development continues.
Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope is currently up on Steam, and it will be entering into Early Access in the near future. Croteam expects to remain in Early Access for the next six months. The game requires tracked motion controllers to function, so those with a Vive should be fine, but Rift users may need to wait until the Oculus Touch controllers are available to get the full first-person shooter experience.
