Last week I had a chance to attend the Ottawa Game Conference (OGC). Yes, Ottawa has a game industry! I was delighted to meet all the great people from Snowed In, Fuel, Magmic and Arctic Empire, all studios founded in Ottawa. The event focused mainly on mobile games, since most of the game companies in Ottawa are in that sector, but there were also some very interesting animation and funding talks.
Jason Della Rocca kicked off the conference with a keynote (and a story about sex).
There was an excellent talk by Gabe Zichermann about Gamification. His talk mentioned that gamification is a staple of our generation and by 2020 most companies will have a game designer on staff.
There was a huge thunderstorm outside.
And in true game developer fashion, a huge after party!
The conference was a lot of fun and I was able to evangelize Ottawa about Crankshaft Games and Party of Sin. We'll see what comes out of that in the next few days!
