Wow...
That is quite a price there...
25$? Half the price of your average retail game, but I'm sorry.
Absolutely everything about that video looks so incredibly generic.
It looks more like a 4.99$ game than 24.99$.
You have to be realistic, after all.
Dude, I payed $5 for Dead Space and find it to be boring. I like these types of games better than most AAA Titles, I like more methodical games.
Anyway, the reason why it's $30 ($25 is the pre-order price, it's kinda like cheap advertising) is because the people that think it's worth $30 will pay $30.
If he sells 100 games at $25, that's $2,500, if he sells 400 games at $5, that's $2,000. That kinda looks like a half a grand loss in revenues :/
The artwork is extremely appealing. If only the monsters were that hot. Oh my.
the artwork is quite well done and appealing, and the rpg mixed with dating sim elements on a Ren'py engine-game sounds good, however this is indeed, overpriced,
a price from 5 to $15 would be fair(enough?) in my opinion.
Way over priced with the current market. Far too much competition at a lower price point.
this developer is becoming quite infamous for pricing themselves outside of the boundaries of the market. let's be realistic; there's *plenty* of other games that are far cheaper and much more appealing.
not worth it imo, especially considering we just had the Steam summer sale come through that drained plenty of wallets. really, where is there room in the budget for something so generic and uninspired?
oh, also, quote from an irc channel from an unbiased person regarding just how generic this is:
<+mindis|wurk> which one of the characters at top is loren. they're all female or gender ambiguous pretty people
Hey guys, I'm sorry to intrude as this is really not a game I've been tracking. I had a look at it(videos and media and such) and also the comments(especially about pricing). Please keep in mind this is an RPG type of game...these tend to be full of open ends and possibilities of "what happens if"...meaning you have different aspects of the game depending how you play it, and that demands a lot of work(especially from a modding team). If you compare with games like Limbo, which is linear and progressive through a set path you'll understand where I'm coming from. You program that set linear path, as opposed to RPGs that would have different possibilities. I am not planning on getting this game as I'm not into the genre, I'm just saying that for a modding team that actually completed such a large project it isn't very encouraging to call their work unworthy or the like. However for those who have limited funds(as I am also a person of such position and am not telling you to give this team your piles of money) you might want to ask the team(maybe in a personal message or a thread with all the people that can't afford this game) whether they would consider realeasing this cheaper in a bundle in the future. Just my 2 cents...All the Best, guys and girls!
at the same time, he's trying to go for a very niche market with a lot of competition, where there's a drastically smaller audience, and is expecting more people to fork out to buy the game.
I hate to admit it, but VNs are nowhere near popular. If you want to make decent money, you have to go where the largest audience is. :\
Hahaha! Holly ****! 4 that prize I buy some combo like NWN+Baldur's Gate or at least TES:Oblivion and mod the **** outta it.
Try better 99C.
1. NWN on release was more than this price
2. Oblivion is a decade old game and they're still charging too bloody much for it.
I don't see a problem with his price, its more the product doesn't have enough appeal to pull in the market- as I said below, its 1 half short of being a great JRPG.
Having played this game before it came to Desura, I think it has a bit of an image problem.
Looking at the preview video, I can see where people are coming from in saying it looks generic (aside from featuring some of the sexiest people I've ever seen in a medieval fantasy world!). The gameplay isn't groundbreaking for sure, but what is these days? It offers solid customization and while the mechanics are a bit quirky, I hear the major problems are going to be ironed out when the game's expansion comes out.
I think the real meat of it comes from the story however, and labeling the game as pure RPG is a bit of a disservice. It doesn't help that the video only really shows of the RPG facet of the game, though it may be difficult to remedy that since novels are difficult to market concisely.
RPGs do in fact have a lot of competition, but Visual Novels on the other hand... there just aren't many good ones made outside of Japan yet. The category system isn't really flexible enough for this game; you have the people who haven't played it saying it looks generic (by that do they mean indie devs aren't supposed to have polished visuals?), and the people who know more realizing it's somewhat niche. It's a tough place to be.
Pros:
-Sexy art
-Nice story with witty dialogue
-Romance options for people of all sexual persuasions
-Battle skills present a lot of customization and open many different gameplans
Cons:
-Battles can lag badly if many characters are present, even with animations off
-Game balance becomes skewed in the late game (supposedly going to be addressed when the expansion arrives)
Score as a visual novel: 10/10
As an RPG: 6/10 (Could see it going up to 8 when balance issues are resolved)
The balancing issue you mention are the one related to the "speed" cheat ? or something else?
Right, I think the major issues can be traced back to the number of turns people get late in the game, with your speedy frontliners (especially Karen) getting 4 turns or more for every turn the "normally" built characters are getting. It makes the mages especially sad. I mentioned this on the Winter Wolves forum before, that's how I know you guys are working on it.
In case it wasn't clear the first time, I think it's a very nice game with potential. After the speed issue is resolved I'd have no qualms about recommending it to other RPG fans even with the price in mind.
Ok the speed issue SHOULD have been fixed already in the expansion, of course will need some testing first. Hopefully end of this month beta is available :) thanks
The pricing shouldn't be an issue if he's got it planned to eventually reduce as time goes on. Offering an introductory discount would've helped.
There is nothing wrong with indie devs charging 1/2 the price of a full retail game, they are perfectly entitled to do so. That said though they better be prepared to at least have quality in their game.
Graphically its got the goods, but I agree with the general census that this unfortunately the gameplay doesn't look like its worthy of the high price. As what many will say, a JRPG is one half combat and one half graphical adventure game- it seems you're missing the graphical adventure game portion.
Looks interesting, I'd love to see it as a mobile app, seems like the perfect fit!
I've played a bit of Spirited Heart, but you're facing the same kind of pricing issue over there as well.
I'm gonna watch this and buy it if the price drops to a level I'm comfortable with.
And preferably on my phone :)
Porting this on Android will almost be impossible, it's too complex / big sorry ^_^
Don't even put this on the same level as a VN.
I read tons of VN, Saya no Uta, Utawarerumono, Tears to Tiara, Fate / Stay Night Tsukihime, and dozens more and this is a terrible title. It makes it seem like a kid came up with it.
And then there is the laughable story I looked up...cmon, you had to make the graphics, and gameplay, AND STORY? All generic? Not even trying for any creativity?
Utawarerumono is one of the best examples of RPG + VN mixed, as is Tears to Tiara. There are several more, Men at Work, Spirit Of Eternity Sword was amazing.

Even if the art wasn't to HQ, the story, characters, and overall gameplay was so addicting I played it like 10 times in a row.
Also features New Game +, over 8 unique endings, and all that good stuff.
Did you play the full game or are you just basing your impressions from the demo only? because I've a lot of people who really enjoyed the game story. Tastes are tastes.
i dunno i see the game i play the demo and this games is something that surprised me, it's solid game with good RP elements and this price is spot on for it, and reading some people here makes me think they just seen the pics and video, then decided to comment without thinking even, i give it over all score of 9/10 and with future only holding improvements and fixes it's a good game to own.
Yes, most of the time people judge only based on the screens/videos ;)
(not just for my game, in general!) thanks
