Featuring twelve new levels in which to battle! They're all very varied, unlike the standard WOTR maps, which I always found rather plain and boring. They've also got lots of Places of Power on them for you to battle over! . . . . . INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS . . . . . . Create a Levels folder in your WoTR directory and put all the files in there. Then run WoTR!
The Barrow-Downs
Far away on the barren Barrow-Downs, hordes of Trolls march against hordes of Shieldbreakers. Run and hide in the Old Forest, or fortify Bree. Seek out Tom Bombadil. Use the ancient relics left there to your advantage!
Dol Guldur
Turn the Dol Guldur campaign map into a playable MP map and you have this!
The Edge of Mirkwood
Fight under the eaves of Mirkwood. Cross the Anduin with a force to match that of the invasion of Minas Tirith, just many leagues North. Use the powers of Radagast to bewilder your foes.
Gundabad (Catapult)
A sacred place for the Dwarves, Mount Gundabad was overrun by Orcs. Use the Ancient Catapult to drive them back - although over the years it has become ineffective at destroying buildings. Climb the slopes and reclaim what is rightfully yours!
Edoras
Why was it called "Upbourn" in the original game? The tip-off was the nine mounts on the left, and seven on the right. I'm very happy with this map and how it strategically plans out - unlike other maps there are many chokepoints, where if you can hold those they cannot attack you. This often results in an attritious war of starvation...
Iron Hills
Another campaign map which I turned into a playable map. No catapult, because there wasn't any room for it. It's very densely packed, so much so the colonies quite frequently break the AI... but of course, never the player!
Lothlorien
The original had far too many Elven Temples, resulting in massive HP buffs to units. This version is a good dal more balanced, and extremely compact as a result of cramming 5 players on the one map.
Minas Ithil
Again, taken out of the campaigns. This is my campaign map I'm most proud of. Good chokepoints yet allowing flanking, colonies in strategic defensive spots, and Places of Power than are worthwhile to take and yet not too powerful. Unfortunately the AI isn't good enough to make it feel like a true siege - but enjoyable nevertheless.
Misty Mountains Cold
Far over the misty mountains cold...
The Misty Mountains have been home to the Orcs for many a year, possibly ever since Orcs came to the land. Bring the Light of Earendil to their tunnels for the first time since the earth was formed. Summon an.... ent? from Fangorn Forest to aid you!
The snow looked better on the minimap :|
Quadrants
Honestly, this is a very silly map. Due to the large numbers of colonies the AI does very well at it. Two versions - one with a catapult in the centre, one without. Great for a bash where you have hordes facing hordes, but it doesn't encourage early-game attack and instead relies on lategame pulverizing.
The Ash Mountains
I wanted a fair 1v3 map with no extra colonies. So I made one myself, set in the barren inhospitable land of Mordor, where your allies are few and the shields of the Orcs broad. Fight to the last gasp!
The Edge of the Wild
Anyway you are over the Edge of the Wild now, and in for all sorts of fun wherever you go!
A very varied map. Some start points are at a huge advantage whilst others are at a loss. However, the colonies and Places of Power mean they're roughly all equal. And in any case the AI is incompetent enough to mean even in the worst start point (probably top left corner), you're still able to march forth to victory.
It's such a good idea to turn campaign maps into MP maps. Why did I never thought of that? haha :D
How did you access the campaign maps? Im using the editor at the moment to make Isengard/ Moria/ Hobbiton maps at the moment any tips woild be hugely appreciated I love your work here!
You just have to unpack the Levels.H2O file and open them in world editor. Apparently you can see interesting triggers and etc.
Thanks. Do you know what encryption the .txt files should be set as when saving them after editing e.g ANSI, unicode or utf8? Im trying to change text files but they wont repack properly...
I really want to rename things so I can have more LOTR characters in my skirmish maps.
