Sony has revealed a new PlayStation VR accessory that is designed to replicate the feeling of holding a gun. It’s called the PlayStation VR Aim Controller, and unlike previous accessories that were designed to be shells which the PlayStation Move controllers slot into, this Aim Controller looks like a standalone accessory with the Move’s functionality built into it.
The controller is designed to be used with VR first-person shooters such as the upcoming PlayStation VR-exclusive, Farpoint. Sony claims the controller offers one-to-one direct tracking – with greater accuracy than the PlayStation Move controllers themselves. According to Farpoint’s developer Impulse Gear, via Engadget, the Aim Controller allows for "things in Farpoint that just are not possible in a standard FPS game."
We can assume that the Farpoint trailer above was captured with the Aim Controller in use. Currently there is no release date or price for the Aim Controller, though we would assume it would be close to the launch of the PlayStation VR hardware itself on October 13 this year.
