Crystal Kin is an exploration driven RTS game that features procedurally generated maps for the players to explore and conquer. The maps include randomly generated NPC factions, bosses, and scripted events that the player will need to deal with in order to win. Game modes will include single player vs AI, online and LAN multiplayer and persistent online servers with very large game worlds, to explore and build massive empires; allowing diverse play that can last from 30 minutes to several days.

3: Crystal doesn't grow on trees

We decided to change things up a bit, instead of longer posts with more theory crafting we are going to start posting shorter and hopefully more frequent posts that will cover what we have been up to since the last update. So here it goes!

Those rare crystal resources aren’t so rare in our test build it would seem; in fact they are so un-rare that they are growing out of the trees! Since the last update about three weeks ago (sorry about that) we have been hard at work implementing more of the Shattered Tribes into the engine. We have added four new unit models, a new and improved crystal tower and the new crystal animation. Most of these still have unfinished team colour textures (the default is red and gold) as well as unfinished lighting and particle effects.




Tier 0

This is the first of many previews of the physical units of the Shattered Tribes; the elemental ones were in the previous post. These aren't as fancy as the elemental folk, but they have an important role to fill!

The Rock Shaper serves as the worker unit for the faction, he is able to transform into the scouting unit for a cost, as well as do all the things expected of a worker unit.

The Oathless are warriors who have aligned themselves with no specific tribe. They serve as the basic warrior unit for the Shattered Tribes and have no special abilities, unless cannon fodder counts.


What’s Next?:

See, I said it would be short! Other that the art we have also implemented some not so exciting engine changes, such as an updated tech tree, spell cool downs, additional particle effects and loads more. The next post will be similar to this one, we hope to include a video of some of the unit animation and an updated look at all the new engine features!
