Recently I've added a new feature to the game which has huge implications regarding the game-play.
For a time I have been debating with myself what the best way to represent "hacking into computers" within this game, for it is an important component to the story. First I used simple menu-driven choices, but this didn't feel too hackish and it was too obvious what the correct answer was. Then I went for logic puzzles, but all of the riddles I could come up with felt like they had too little to do with the task at hand.
Then I had an ambitious idea. Why don't I let the players hack into the computers directly?
The ability to access in-game computers using a command-line interface.
The feature might not be very accessible to those unfamiliar with command-line interfaces, so it will always be optional. It will be necessary, however, in order to obtain the best endings.
There will be a few different computers you can hack into throughout the story, and you will be able to move files between them by using removable storage media. There might be some puzzles that require moving files from one computer to another to solve.
I feel like this new feature adds quite a bit of depth to the game.
