This workaround fixes the annoying audio stutter of kinesis doors in the PC version of Dead Space 3.
I basically just silenced that one bugging sound file. Doors still make sound when opened/closed. You won't notice any missing audio unless maybe in direct comparison to the console version.
Installation:
- Unpack .zip into Dead Space 3 installation folder.
(Usually "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dead Space 3\")
- Start DS3Patcher.bat
- Follow instructions
Changelog:
2017-05-06: Updated DS3Patcher.bat for installations with more than 6 bigfile*.viv files
2017-05-06: Now checking file size for bigfile0.viv to determine whether the patch was already applied
I really appreciate the time you put into this but I have my game in a different directory than normal. Is there anyway I can change the location search in the program to make it work? Thank you for your time.
I figured it out. I had to transfer the bigfile.patch.viv from the compressed file into the game folder. Either way, thanks for doing what EA should have done!
the installation directory doesn't matter. the BAT just checks for existing bigfiles and renames them for load order (bigfile0.viv to bigfile6.viv with the patch being the first). simply copying the patch file into the correct folder alone won't work. the files have to be properly named, too.
Thanks a lot for your time and effort !
It didn't work for me the first time. The screen message was "Patch already applied!" but the problem still was there. So I changed the name of the "bigfile6.viv" file to another name. Then I run the patch again and it worked !
please make sure the original bigfile6.viv is renamed to bigfile7.viv progressing with any additional bigfiles after that.
it was my understanding that all installations have the same amount of bigfiles. guess i'll have to update the BAT.
The original "bigfile6.viv" was renamed to "_bigfile6.viv" and it worked for 2 or 3 hours. I don't know if that isn't correct and the game will create new bugs later in the mid or lategame.
I've change now the original "bigfile6.viv" to "bigfile7.viv" and...
original "bigfile7.viv" to "bigfile8.viv"
original "bigfile8.viv" to "bigfile9.viv"
original "bigfile9.viv" to "bigfile10.viv"
I will try the game with these changes to see how it works.
Sorry for my english, I'm from Spain
that should do the trick. :) i doubt you will suffer from any bugs later on. if something can't be loaded, the game will just crash, which is something that would have happened in later chapters with a missing or wrongly named bigfile6.viv.
the load order for all bigfiles is in reverse order, which is why the patch file absolutely needs to be bigfile0.viv. this way it will be loaded last and won't be overwritten by the original files.
i've updated the patcher BAT. it will now do the changes that you just made by hand.
no need to apologize. i'm not a native speaker either. ;)
Thanks, it worked until the end of the game and DLC :)
Thanks, this fixed my game. It's crazy that EA wont patch their games.
I thought I could just play the game and ignore it, but that was maddening. Thank you, for this.
Thank you!
Amazing.

The patch runs as it normally would, but I get "Access Denied" when it tries to change all the bigfiles. Then, it ends saying "Patch Successful" even though nothing was changed because access was denied. I also tried running it in Administrator mode, but that made problems worse.
Sounds like you lack the necessary rights to edit files in the installation directory.
Do the following:
- Copy all bigfiles from the install directory to another folder
(Desktop, different partition. Any folder where you can rename files, really.)
- Extract patch files to that folder
- Execute patch
- Copy and replace all files back to the installation folder
If that doesn't work for some reason, do what user Eirken did:
- Rename all bigfiles, starting from the last:
"bigfile9.viv" to "bigfile10.viv", "bigfile8.viv" to "bigfile9.viv" and so on.
(Same as above, copy the files to a different directory, if renaming fails.)
- Extract bigfile.patch.viv from the zip and rename it to bigfile0.viv
Are there video tutorials on how to do this stuff? Keep getting error messages that tell me to "fix" Origin.
Thank you for this fix. I just assumed it was normal the way it sounded all this time.
Great fix OP, but in case you're not aware of it, I just came across a door that still makes that noise aboard the Terra Nova heading towards the Fore Station
I can't make any sense of why I'm experiencing this but you fixed it, thanks a lot.
