Total War: Shogun 2 is still a good game in 2022, I think, but the diplomacy has problems, so I change them, my mod makes player and AI behaves like a frenemy, sometimes we are friends, some we are enemies, similar to international diplomacies in real life, mod is compatible to Steam and non-Steam game:
- Reduce diplomacy penalty of "Declare War" will reduce after turns, player or AI can be easier to ask for peace if the war brings heavy casualties (in the vanilla game, declaring war to other clans, that's just like become sworn enemies, it's not a wise decision).
- Improve diplomacy bonus for higher daimyo's honour (Play as Tokugawa or Otomo, Ikko Ikki clans will be easier when you have diplomacy underdogs through independent declaration from master state, religious differences).
- Reduce diplomacy penalty of Realm Divide (when reach Realm Divide, every indifferent, unfriendly/hostile clans will declare war to player no matter what, but after turns, you can ask for a short-term peace to some weak clans easier).
- Longer peace after a successful "Request Peace", AI won't usually declare war to player randomly after this negotiation for a short time.
- More stable allies, AI will less likely break alliance after a successful "Make Alliance".
There are 3 main mod files (pick 1 of 3):
1) diplomacy_rework:
- Only rework the diplomacy of the vanilla game.
2) diplomacy_rework_extended_clan_fame:
- Rework the diplomacy, also extend the clan fame point scale, Realm Divide will trigger when player occupy about 25 provinces in short campaign or occupies Kyoto early.
3) diplomacy_rework_no_realm_divide:
- Rework the diplomacy, also extend the clan fame point scale unlimitedly, Realm Divide won't trigger no matter how many provinces are conquered, but Real Divide still trigger if player occupies Kyoto.
You need to restart a new campaign to make mod work.
