This is a single-player map that seamlessly combines the first and second marine levels together. Installation instructions inside.
Since the first marine map Derelict naturally leads into Colony through an interconnecting room, we've combined the two so that the first map flows naturally into the second. This also allows for full backtracking throughout the entire length of the levels. The alien spawn points, generator settings, lighting, sounds, scripts, and items are identical to the original maps. Some very slight (and probably unnoticeable) improvements have been added as well. The map ends when you reach the APC overlooking the atmosphere processor after obtaining the bypass.
Always nice to see single player Avp content after all these years, well done. Out of curiosity, is there an upper limit to level size? I remember there was a huge map based on the Avp movie pyramid in the arctic a while back.
I'm imagining the entire Marine campaign as a single ridiculously huge level, although the transitions into space for Orbital and Tyrargo might be a bit of a challenge :-D
There is an upper limit to level size, it's probably around 100,000 polygons. The entire marine campaign may possibly fit into one map, but for sure it couldn't handle the whole marine campaign plus all the bonus missions. It helps that the game only loads a specific number of modules at a time so it never fully renders an entire map.
Nice to imagine the whole marine campaign in one level! However we probably won't do it. It took way more work than it seems to get even two maps together seamlessly.
As a follow up, I played through to the end using my usual route (no attempt to backtrack) and it was all fine. I did notice a few aliens in the fan as you said, and was expecting the lack of hard coded rain. I did notice the video screens didn't play in the colony bit (easiest to see when you first leave derelict and enter colony. There's a screen on the right hand wall), I only got text there.
For the record, I was using SirLemonHead's AvpX installed over a retail Gold Edition copy to test.
Interesting, the FMV screens all should still work. It may be AvPx. You may want to try it with Classic 2000 if you can because in all of our runs (and you can see in my demo video), the FMVs play in both maps. Either that or try saving the map as Genshd1.RIF instead of Derelict.RIF and then loading up Colony in the single-player mode.
