Post news RSS What's next for The Line

So the Line iPhone v1 has been submitted to Apple but you probably wonder what is coming next. We are currently prototyping the multiplayer mode of the game. It is a little bit tricky because it cannot be done the same way on all platforms. For example, on iPhone, we will use the game center which provides servers to host the game and community tools. On PC, we are definitely thinking about Steam which also gives great community tools but we're looking into how to proceed for the server side

So the Line iPhone v1 has been submitted to Apple but if you read those lines, you might wonder what is coming next. We are currently prototyping the multiplayer mode of the game. It is a little bit tricky because it cannot be done the same way on all platforms. For example, on iPhone, we will use the game center which provides servers to host the game and community tools. On PC, we are definitely thinking about Steam which also gives great community tools but we're looking into how to proceed for the server side.

Beside the multiplayer mode, we are working on adapting the game to the different platform resolutions. For now, we have 3 resolutions for 3 platforms:
- The iPhone, which is already done.
- The iPad, which will require additional textures and adjustments. Most of the textures being vectorized, the adjustment will not take too long.
- The PC, which will require additional textures and animation adjustments. The textures are not an issue but it will take time to adjust the animations.

Finally, we are also working on a level editor mainly for the PC version and maybe for the iPad if we can. We already have a functional editor but there is still a long way to go for it to become a user friendly piece of software. We also need to adjust editor with the 3 platform resolutions; Right now, you edit in full screen mode and play with iPhone resolution.

There are also unanswered questions. To this day, we do not know if we will have the strength and resources to run servers for the multiplayer and also for a level sharing platform.

Anyway, as i said, the editor is functional and this is already nice. Here's a video capture showing the creation of a small level. Enjoy and don't forget to give us a vote :-)
