LUCASARTS ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY DECLARE DARK FORCES™: A MOD FOR JEDI KNIGHT II™ IN BREACH OF FUNDAMENTAL LEC LICENSE AGREEMENTS
As of Today (March 31st 2003), the Dark Forces MOD will no longer be allowed to continue, as Lucasarts lawyers have shut down the project, and seized property, including the project leader's personal computer which will be later used in court. I wish I could say this was an April Fool's Joke.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - March 31, 2003 - Today, LucasArts lawyers ordered the immediate abortion of the Dark Forces Jedi Knight II modification project. The Jedi Knight II modification project leader had been cautioned a number of times on the use of illegal materials in the project. These materials are the intellectual property of LucasArts, and to use them knowingly will result in criminal punishment. The website and modification project materials are now the material property of LucasArts.
Dave Turner, the project's leader has been warned on a number of occasions, most recently being issued with a formal caution, and ultimatum outlining the immediate dissolution of the modification and all related materials. Mr Turner failed to agree to this ultimatum, and as a result on March 31, 2003 LucasArts' lawyers seized the website and Mr Turner's personal computer for use later in a court prosecution. Mr Turner will have no choice but to pay a fine of $250,000 to LucasArts Entertainment Company, or face a 6-year prison sentence.

Kind of sounds like the incident of Bid For Power, for those who know what I mean. A MOD/TC becomes so popular that the parent compnay steps in before it is publically released in its final form. Before I say anything that will get this site in trouble, I just want to say I hope Mr Turner comes out of this ok, and we wish him and all his team the best, and we thank them for all the hard work they put into the Demo and the Project.
That sucks bad!
Evan if the mod is in breach of copyright lucasarts could have atleast said look, change this this and this and we may help you out a bit with this in return...
Because if a mod is good enough it will make a game evan better... ie a possible boost in game sales or community interest in further projects by the gameing company (in this case LucasArts)
But to say the least.. THIS SUCKS BEVIS!
while it does seem a bit petty, it depends what materials they were using. Since the engine is moddable no problem but legally all maps, models, names etc. belong to lucasarts or other companies. if the guy was cautioned I'm afraid I have little sympathy.
Thats terrible. I fear what will happen to other SW based mods like Troopers.
They're a big company, can't they afford their own computers?!
another april fools **** joke
hahahaha ******* funny aint ya
:((((((((
Holy **** that's unexpected! Both Dark Forces and Jedi Outcast are LucasArts games; I don't see what the problem is here.
Just go to their site. Really people, it's called "April Fools" for a reason, not "March 31st Fools"...
They need to make things a little more obvious. Even just some hidden text in the page source that says "April Fools" would have been enough.
On a side note, who else things the main page of Planet Halflife is an improvement? :D
Not me :|...
i hope this guy deleted all of his warez!!!!
think of that!
...:(im sorry man,**** happens
aprils fools mufuKcCAZ!!!!
April fools joke that was nicely done
I almost beleived it.. cuz that would of been right up LucasArt's alley! :p
