VALVE ANNOUNCE NEW 'DESTINATIONS' VR CONTENT CREATION TOOL.

In an email from Valve earlier today, I received news of their new VR content creation tool. According to Valve the Destinations Workshop Tools "lets you create, share, and explore both real and imaginary places in virtual reality", with the content being made from either photogeometary or user made game levels.

The software is not just limited to the Vive and will run on all headsets utilising OpenVR, as well as supporting both motion tracked and normal x-input controllers.

Interestingly it mentions that the new tools run on the Source 2 build that is currently being used internally at Valve, as well including an updated source 2 level design wiki. So potentially this could mean we might be seeing some new user content tools from them shortly.

I've yet to have a chance to play around with the tools myself, but as far as I can tell you don't need a VR headset to create content. UPDATE: 09/06/16 - Unfortunately you need a connected HMD to launch the program.

Destinations is a new VR content creation package from Valve. Now available in Early Access, it enables the creation of explorable VR worlds made via photogrammetry, game levels, and more. Destinations is offered free of charge and comes with documentation, sample worlds, plus access to the Source 2 technology and developer Wiki. In addition to the creation package, there is also a dedicated Destinations Workshop for the distribution of user generated "Destinations." For more information, please visit: Store.steampowered.com
