To Discreet Penguin and any other members from media director Byzantine

Posted by on

Ok, here are the compianions we have so far. The last of the Grey people, who created the ancient language, becomes the player's mentor in the story, a female, Werecat comes with your mentor, and our wild Card.... A Raz'ac who wants revenge on the Empire. At the moment we're not sure if we should have him so we've decided to put it to a vote. Templar is opposed to him, Nord is fine with him, and of course I'm fine with him because I created him. Tell us what you think below and we'll see how it turns out. Now, an introduction is in order, I'm Byzantine, lead writer and media director. I enjoy creating stories. Nord is the eccentric Viking. He's the guy who knows the inner workings of M&B and M&B warband. You might think that's not a unique talent, but Nord learned by himself. He frequently copies the native, guts it for new ways to mod, then puts it in LOTDR. Last, but not least, Templar. He is the one who came up with the idea of the mod, relentlessly persues perfection in the mod, and is the leading Inheritance cycle expert in the family. If you have any ideas to put into the mod, please comment below. And I would like to offer my thanks to Discreet Penguin for being the first person to join the group.
We will have a dwarf, an elf, a Kull, and several humans. I haven't worked on them yet, so that's where you come in. If you have any ideas or questions, feel free to comment.

Glad to see that we have someone who knows M&B, because I wasn't sure that the engine could handle this kind of stuff. I'm a bit rusty with my Inheritance lore, but I'm sure Templar'll proofread anything I've got anyway.

On the Raz'ac companion. I'm half and half, but I think that if we made it believable enough, maybe have him fight you first in a random encounter or something, if that's possible. I just doubt that you'd pick up a Raz'ac in a tavern or something. I'm on the fence about that one as of now.

I'll start putting together some ideas for the humans and dwarf. The Kull will require some serious thought...

The Raz'ac is going to be at key events in the story before he joins you, in fact, you don't know he's a Raz'ac at first. He saves your charactor multiple times but for his own ends, he want's to use you to get to Galbatorix. If you join the Empire, he's biding his time until he can get close to Galbatorix. If you join the Varden, he's waiting until they strike against Ura'baen then he will attempt to kill Good old Galb.

Okay, well then I guess we'd just have to really focus on making it believable. I've completed a human male spellweaver's outline and I'm working on a female elf and a male dwarf now.

Now, I have very little understanding of the M&B engine. But judging from what I've seen, I have to ask. Is all this story stuff feasible? Not once have I seen it even mentioned.

I think so, we've seen it in mods like The last Days or Brytenwelda, and we can just change some of the native quests.
An example is that the first quest in warband we can change it that you go to Daret and instead of a random thug, you get attacked by an Urgal, thats scouting Daret out for the main force that attacked Yazuac. And instead of the merchant it's the Mayor of Daret who asks you to help against the Urgals. Thats just one of the many things we can do to make M&B more story driven. As for your spellweaver, if you have a idea how he's going to look like, use the M&B charactor creation to make him look like you imagine him then post it in the LOTDR group images. By the way, do you think we should have a female dwarf too?

Female dwarf? If you have any idea what that'd look like, by all means sure. I know I don't. *shudder*

Yea I know what you mean, maybe we could have it that if your player is male she flirts with you all the time and you can't get rid of her,or is that too cruel? lol.

Alright, here are two of the characters I've completed.

Name: Ardic Stormbringer
Gen: Male
Race: Human
Age: 32
Desc: A somewhat powerful spellweaver from Surda, Stormbringer has been a freedom fighter on his own for years. It is said that his father and grandfather had been dragon riders killed by the Forsworn, but this has not been confirmed nor denied by him. He was crossing the Hadarac Desert from Du Weldenvarden to join the Varden at Farthen Dur when he ran out of water and lost the strength to defend himself, giving bandits the opportunity to beset him and his camp. Luckily, the player character and his entourage stumble upon the scene, saving him. Stormbringer offers his services to the PC.
Personality: He is witty and quick to speak up whenever the chance arises (a lot more map interrupts). Dislikes the Raz'ac, citing an 'uneasy feeling' he has about him. Likes the mentor, Cairn and Levunna, but dislikes Chelbror. If you join Galbatorix, he challenges you angrily, and you're forced to kill him in a duel.

Name: Cairn
Gen: Female
Race: Human
Age: 19
Desc: Cairn grew up in Carvahall, but they were driven out by Sloan after their eldest son had grown too close to Katrina. Her family was beset by bandits travelling away and she was forced to flee into the woods, where the bandits hunted her after killing her family. The mentor made the decision to help her, and the party swiftly killed the bandits before taking her in. She has good healing skills and prefers a sword.
Personality: Idealistic and naive, Cairn has seen the least amount of action among the party. She speaks when she recognizes things (few map interrupts). Dislikes the Raz'ac as it makes her feel uncomfortable. Is liked by and likes everyone else. Like Luvenna, leaves peacefully if you join Galbatorix.

Ardic Stormbringer.... LOVE the name. The Mentor is exactly the kind of person that would take orphans under his wing. Oh and the Raz'ac is a he, I coud not imagine him any other way.

The other two:

Name: Levunna
Gen: Female
Race: Elf
Age: 88
Desc: Levunna is neither the oldest nor the youngest elf. Neither most powerful nor weakest, she does not think too highly of her abilities. She is the best archer of the group. She is encountered just south of Du Weldenvarden, when the party encounters a squad of Imperials en route to Carvahall. She helps them defeat the squad and offers to aid them as she knows where to find the Varden.
Personality: Quiet and reserved, she takes no pleasure from small-talk (very few map interrupts). Likes Stormbringer despite their differences and likes Cairn, dislikes Chelbror. Leaves without a goodbye if you join Galbatorix.

Name: Chelbror
Gen: Male
Race: Dwarf
Age: 157
Desc: Chelbror: the renowned dwarf warrior from Farthen Dur. He fought in many wars, and is covered in scars from them. Despite his worldwide respect, he lacks morals. The only thing he wants in the world is to fight again; the target of his whirlwind destruction does not matter.
Personality: Sarcastic, pessimistic and an adept narcissist, Chelbror only speaks to his allies when it involves him or his people (map interrupt near Farthen Dur and one other about his battles past in the Hadarac). Disliked by and dislikes EVERYONE except Cairn, who he has a brotherly affection for and who reciprocates it. Doesn't care either way about your alliance.

Ok here is the Ra'zac.
Name: Unknown
Gen: male
Age: Unknown, but at Least as old as Galbatorix.
Desc: Banished by his own people due to a birth defect that keeps him from growing into a Letherblacka. His vendeta against Galbatorix began during the forsworn's rise to power, no one knows why except Galb and the Raz'ac, but what ever it is it must have been bad because the Raz'ac will kill anyone(the player too) who stands in the way of his revenge. You meet the Raz'ac first at Daret where he saves your life, he joins you after he breaks you out of Durza's prison THAT is when you discover his true identity.

Also, an idea came to us about a backstory for the Kull. Wondering what you think. He was one of the Kull's best warriors until a Shade, used a spell to temporarily paralyze him, and while torturing him removed one of his horns as a trophy. He was awake during this and since he did not lose his horn in battle was dishonored and can't go back to his people. His quest is to find and defeat the shade, thereby reclaiming his honor. Of course, all the companions are going to not want him along excepting the elf, who understands the Kull's culture and why they fight. He respects the renown that the player and the dwarf have gained in their battles throughout Alagaesia. He is determined to show that he is not a monster, that his people's culture completely revolves around combat and the need to prove themselves in battle. He shows up when your renown is at a certain level.

Do we want more companions? I can create a few. As far as the Ra'zac companion is concerned, its a fine idea. I am also quite well-versed in the lore behind Christopher Paolini's world. I can have another companion or three created by tomorrow if you would like :D

We have several writers as it is; it'd be best if we could working on learning to mod in my opinion. Characters are always great and I'm working on some dialogue paths for quests at the moment, but see if you can figure out modding characters since we have no one who can as far as I can tell.

I have a potential companion in mind:
Name: Aden Sharpsword
Age: 42
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Description: He is a great swordsman and is okay with a crossbow. He is not the toughest but is quick and witty. He was once garrisoned at Ura'Baen. He was renowned for his swordsmanship and was respected by his fellow soldiers, thus giving him the name of Sharpsword. But secretly, to all but his family, he was a spy for the Varden. One day he was given away by his own son, and the Empire burned his house and all of his possesions. He has been living in secret every since, finding homage among the Dwarves, the Varden, and the Surdans. He has been looking to join a skilled commander so he could strike back at the Empire and see the Varden victorious.
Other things: If you join the Empire he asks you to let him escape and live in peace. If you agree he disappears from the game and if you refuse you lose 1 honour and have to fight him. If he wins he loots your items and there is a 5% chance you will become a prisoner of the Varden. If you win he becomes your prisoner and the next time you meet galbatorix he will ask you for him (If you haven't already sold him or set him free.) He is very ambitious and cocky, and often attempts offers advice (lots of map inturrupts.) He doesn't care very much about who he travelsith but he is uncomfortable with Elves, Magicians, and the Ra'zac, he says they make him feel uneasy.
Equipment: Leather Warrior Cap, Blue Gambeson, Leather Gloves, Ankle Boots, Arming Sword, Wooden Shield, Crossbow, bolts.

If you don't like him feel free to edit him.

Got a companion for the Empire:

Edward Derikson
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Story: His father was killed in a skirmish with the Varden and he has been looking to get his revenge. His uncle had taught him to shoot a bow and swing a sword.
He has always felt more comfortable with archery however, and he had left his family to join a commander to help him get his revenge on the Varden.
He has skill with tracking and he is quiet and reserved (very few map inturrupts.) He hates everyone that is favorable to the Varden in any way.
He is also uncomfortable around everyone but Dwarves and Humans. If you join the Varden he tries to kill you and you must fight and kill him or he will "escape" and
go back to the taverns.

Equipment: Leather Gloves, Leather Armor, Leather Boots, Hatchet, Long Bow, Barbed Arrows.

Sorry if he's not my best work I threw it together in a hurry.
