Post news Report RSS Smithing, Combat System & Stuff

The game has had some major changes which seem small but are a big factor into making the game become a reality. These changes include polygon optimization and collision. The smithing is also finished for a Beta build and more modeling have been done.

Smithing

The smithing is done to a level that I feel that it is good enough to be considered to be a Beta kinda stage. This means that I would like people to test it soon and give feedback on the controls and the overall design of the system. I have fixed one of the major bugs which meant that the crafter would be given the wrong item and I have also added the user friendly feature of auto selecting the the item you wish to craft if you are holding an item in your hand.

Polygon Optimization

This part of development is a very important part of the game as the better this is done the better the game will look, run and the bigger it can be. This part of development have not really been started but I've been messing around with ways of getting the best possible results and what I have done with some basic quite high polygon models is to me impressive but I don't know if this is terrible by AAA title games. I have been able to with some models get the amount of polygons of the model down by over 60% whistle keeping most of the detail. Screenshots will come in the next update showing this.

Collision

I know this seems very late to be added to the game but it now has collision which should be nearly perfect, I haven't tried it out thoroughly yet but of what I tried it seems good. Hopefully the game will not have the invisible walls at edges where your arrows just get stuck in mid air.

Combat System

The combat system is under development at the moment and have been slightly redrafted from before but still has the same flexibility as before (More details soon). The damage which a player takes will depend on where he/she is hit and whether there is protection there. The damage is also calculated on the speed of the weapon, the speed of the player being hit and the angle of the strike and the angle of the piece of material hit. This will allow for a large scope of depth and will also be easy to pick up as you don't have to learn anything new as it is common sense.

Modeling

Since the last update I haven't done that much modeling but I have been doing some. Please tell me what you think of the face I have made in the last day (remember be honest, if you don't like something, say and I will do my best to fix it!)
