If you've never heard of Slot before, you're about to. They just announced they will be releasing their first English-language album, "Break The Code", in the United States. This is huge not only because it is so rare that a Russian band releases material in the US, but because they also have a rabid worldwide fanbase that has been begging for this since their "2 Vojny" video became a viral hit.
Why should the MODDB Metal Appreciation Society care? One, because both lead singers Nookie and Cache scream their way through tracks like "Bullet" and "Kill me" with wild abandon. Two, because rumor has it they are also plotting a U.S. tour, and trust me when I say you want to see these guys live!

Did I mention Nookie is sexy as #@!%?
So the album drops August 23rd. Included are English translations of some of their greatest hits like "Lego", "Two Wars", and "Dead Stars", along with new tracks like "Break the Code". Listening to the preview, I have no doubt in my mind this will be Slot's heaviest album yet. "Bullet" has been made even heavier in translation, and the fact that it is only the second song on a 15-track album means this is going to be one hell of a ride.
And no, I'm not their manager. Just one of those aforementioned rabid fans.
i had not heard of sLoT
I discovered the SLoT around 2005. I've been a complete addict ever since. Yes, it's a music style that's been played by many bands but with the SLoT songs there's always an edge that makes you go crazy and wish you could turn the volumeknob of your stereo just a bit further than its limit.
Thanks for this, i never heard of them, but after this song i must say they are good, very good. Must get their albums. Thanks again.
All of their Russian albums are on iTunes now, including their "greatest hits" album. I highly recommend "2 Vojny" as well.
The only reason I've heard of them is because their music is featured in the Half-Life mod Paranoia and to be honest they are about as generic as they come...
Give "Lego" a listen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0z4FjT6jJY) and try and tell me that's generic.
Are you kidding? That's the kind of thing I'm talking about... I've heard that kind of song millions of times before. They're nothing special.
Have you really heard a million songs with female vocals that effortlessly switch from soaring opera tones to gritty screams, with progressive guitars that jump from metal to alt-rock to punk (sometimes in the same song), vicious synth tracks and hard-hitting nu-metal rhythms? If so, send me your playlist bro, because I want to hear what you're hearing!
Not sure how this band is even related to metal (well apart from the use of distortion). They sound like alternative rock to me. I don't think they are so special, but it is good to see Russian bands making it to States (hope they will sell pretty well too). Good luck to them.
@JM_Scion
Hey man, can you explain what do you mean by "progressive guitars"?
They're mostly a nu-metal band, but ever since current vocalist Nookie replaced Teona, they've been experimenting with every style under the sun. So they have heavy metal tracks like "Bullet" or "Break the Code", but then they'll do rap-metal ("Plastika"), alt-rock ("Lego"), punk metal ("Doska"), and a lot of times combine several genres into one song ("They Killed Kenny!"). Their next album is dominated by their heavy stuff though.
To be honest I'm not too sure what I meant by "progressive guitars" since I wrote that deep into the AM, but I think I was referring to how their guitarist, ID, progresses from one style to another in the same song, like on "Kill Me" where he does a shredding opening, a ska bounce during the verse, a melodic solo during Cache's breakdown and then back to metal chords towards the end.
Sounds like a ****** mix between that Avril ***** and Korn, and nu-metal isn't even metal to begin with.
Also, no movement downstairs.
Woah, say whatever you like about sLoT but don't you dare say nu metal isn't metal. That puts you up against bands like Spineshank, Dry Cell, Unloco, Motograter, iLL Nino, Nothingface and other criminally underrated artists.
All of those bands sound the same as limp-slipkorn park.
Sorry if you were offended by what I said about Slot but I'm afraid they just do nothing for me and no matter how many genres a band can mix, it still means nothing when they sound dull.. just my opinion.
Most of those others you mentioned can go in the bin too... with the exception of a) Spineshank actually have some decent songs, but I couldn't listen to them in bulk.
b) Nothingface on the other hand, are pretty awesome, I would say they're borderline Nu-metal... I mean they're not Death metal or anything but they're not exactly full on angsty "**** you I wont tidy my bedroom". I like pretty much everything they've done from the s/t all the way upto 'Skeletons'. Favourite album is probably 'An Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity'.
Another decent nu-metal band I like is Cold, especially '13 Ways To Bleed Onstage'.
and don't worry about Headcrusher, he likes Iron Maiden so has no right to an opinion :P
I just picked up "An Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity" last week. Great stuff!
Wow! Slot's manager, Travis Leake, just shared this post on his Facebook. It's a small world after all.
Slot - супер группа! Я from Russia. У нас их определяют как альтернативный рок. Была на их концерте. Это супер драйв!!!
Lol guys, I never thought Slot is so popular anywhere except Russia.
I don't think "popular" is the right word since I've only bumped into one other person in the States who knew they existed. But the fans you'll find overseas are pretty dedicated. I've turned a few of my friends into Slot fans.
