User-generated content is becoming increasingly important in games, specifically for Sony with LittleBigPlanet 2 – will we see mod tools or UGC for Portal 2 on consoles?
Well the mod tools have to stay on the PC side just because there’s a bunch of dependencies that require the Windows platform. But the content that comes out is agnostic, and so we will be seeing that on all the platforms. Depending on the platform you’re on I should say, will depend on how we’re delivering it. It’s the same type of thing we’re working on with all of our games. I mean Left 4 Dead 2, we’re looking at how you bring user-generated content to the 360 side, here, there’s all the platforms.
Portal 2 pre-orders on Steam grant both the Source SDK and the SDK Base games, but so far there is no word on C++ source code access.
The interview also confirms that a mod distribution system is being built into the game itself, for the PS3 at very least. Watch out Desura!
Ooh, this is gonna be cool for people who don't play games on the PC.
But I play games on the PC. :3
i hope they will make it easy for people who want to make mod
You forget what's been going on over the last little while.
You're new aren't you?
AAAStudios... Hmmm... with the source engine will be really hard to make something AAA.
The Source Engine is a pain in the *** with models and creating maps in Hammer. I don't know about C++ because i'm starting to just learn C. lol.
Good Luck to your future game/mod.
hammer hard? I friend of mine made maps for HL1 when he was 12, so it ain't THAT hard :p
I really await news on the source. We modders wanting to migrate to Portal 2 need to know if new weapon creation etc. will be possible.
YES!

Darnit, man!! Details! I want my levels on the 360, NOW!
