Oculus CEO and co-founder Brendan Iribe has taken to Twitter to give a brief update on the status of the Oculus Touch motion-tracked controller. While previously the only rough estimate of a ship date for the Oculus Touch was the latter half of 2016, Iribe now says that the controller will ship toward the end of the year in Q4.

This update comes just after Oculus has announced the dates for its conference, Oculus Connect 3,for October this year. Considering that falls in the start of Q4, it’s natural to assume that Oculus Connect 3 is going to feature a strong focus on the Oculus Touch itself – something which Iribe confirmed in a follow-up tweet.

Though some developers have had their hands on Oculus Touch developer kits for a while now, they have been notoriously hard to get a hold of. That’s about to change, however, as Iribe says that thousands of developer kits are shipping now, later clarifying that number to be “well over 5000”:

At E3 in June this year, Oculus announced that over 30 Oculus Touch games will be available by year’s end, including Touch-exclusive games from triple-A developers such as Insomniac’s magic-duelling game, The Unspoken. We’ll have more information about the Oculus Touch once Oculus Connect 3 goes live on October 5.
