Greetings people, we are very happy to make an announcement!
The I of the Dragon originally first released in the early 2000’s and now after 20 years, the first modding community for this game has formed!
How did this happen?
It all started when our founding member wrote a post on the steam hub for IotD, asking people if anyone knew something about possibly modding this game. Soon people answered and a modding community started to form.
Over time we discovered more and more about IotD’s inner workings, starting with manipulating monster lairs and playable maps, all the way to changing specific units, creating new magic spells and even learning about hardcoded parts of the game.
Most of this was possible thanks to a set of tools on github, discovered by one of our members, which can be found here:
Github.com
We have also started working on a modding guide for I of the Dragon, with the hope that one day we can teach others about modding nearly every aspect of the game.
Why is IotD suddenly on Moddb?
After realizing that we can now create mods for this game, we thought about ways to share them with other people. Moddb came to mind, as it seemed ideal for sharing mods for this classic game.
One of our members contacted the amazing people at Moddb and they helped us to get this thing going. At this point we have even released a mod, with hopefully more to come in the future!
Below are some images from some mods we have published or are currently working on:

This is wonderful news! 😺
It's probably too early to ask this but I wonder if it'd be possible to make total conversion-tier mods for this?
So far we havent been able to make the blender plugin for handling the models work for exporting so we havent been able to introduce or modify models, and we also havent been able to add or modify textures, but other than that, almost everything is open :)
I love this game, it's so incredibly underrated! I can't wait to play it with a finally fixed flying system!
