It has been our dirty little secret for a while now, but for those unaware Mod DB v3 will be launched this Saturday the 3rd of December at 10pm PST.
So... what has changed?
Whilst v2 has grown phenomenally over the past year, we do occasionally receive an email with suggestions for improvement. Over the past few months we collated all these emails, identified features we want to see and have made them so. Here is a few of the more notable changes:
- New site theme (sleek, gameified, red on black layout)
- Much more organized site layout with the site essentially broken into four: areas
- Browse - mods, galleries, downloads
- Read - news, features, awards
- Develop - tutorials, help wanted, getting started
- Discuss - forums, comments, polls
- Tabbed profiles with MUCH MUCH more details
- Enhanced search across all areas of the site
Is there going to be a paaaartaaay? The site will be going down for 1 to 2 hours during the deployment.. so what better time is there to throw an IRC shindig / chat / speculate / flame. Join in on the action by following these simple steps
- Get an IRC Client running (mIRC is a good option)

Change is a dangerous thing for some.
Heck, I don't even like change but I love v3.
Well my only complaint is against the new spanner and font, but thats just me. It'll grow on me in time though.
Hell, it's (marginally) a better colour scheme than V2. I've been using classic colours sinse I had the choice to do so.
However, what new options we got? Is there a way to easily stop watching mods? Can you get a list of mods you're watching with status listed? Just some of the thing I can think of that were useful in V1 that was missing in V2. (I liked the status indicators from V1 as well - Red=not released, Green=released, etc)
Otherwise, I guess I'll see how it turns out when the site goes live. Then I'll start bitching to my heart's content. :P

Nothing cheesy about that, a tremendous amount of thought went into the new site slogan and it essentially came down to one thing.
Q: Why do we play mods?
A: Because they are unique, they challenge the boundries, they change the original game... they are DIFFERENT and change is the spice of life
I think I just creamed my pants, and the closest thing I have to edible cream is 6km's away. Conclusion? Its not exactly cream..

The underlying site navigation has undergone major changes and therefore the old templates are no longer compatible. Once you see the red/black i think you will definately find it to your liking.
The site is quite well organised, news is still shown - rest assured of that :D

The teaser looks great, but could we expect alternatives to the red/black color scheme (even if the basic one seems nice) ?
I don't really like the idea of having red on black backround, but it looks pretty great anyway.
The idea looks kinda of goth actually. Just make sure to have plenty of white to balance it out.

Meh...doesn't look too great...i'd stick with this one..but oh well...nice job..
The site continues to run on the Desura Engine, infact no engine changes were really required to support the new version of the site.
And rest assured this deployment will be smooth sailing. Unlike v2 where the entire DB / filestructure changed, this change is mainly confined to the PHP code so the transition should be seemless.
I always go on this site for C&C general mods and the upgrade looks reli kewl!! well tis a change anyway :p

I like it... While i am not an advicate of dark colour schemes, it does looks quite good.
One thing though, Will there be a white colour scheme for the site? Id prefer that, rather than the dark black one.
