Hello all,
I’m sad but also happy to announce this. After talking with the team, we are working together with weekly meetings on Skype. Let me first say the Alyx mod that you’ve all been waiting for is moving to UDK. We will be rewriting the story for UDK so the spirit of the project is there but sadly we can’t use any of the stuff in the half-life world is copyrighted so we are tweaking the story. Now that does not mean we are turning our back on the Source world. We will be working on a new idea for the engine as we try hard to find a programmer that wants to work with us.

Whats UDK?
UDK - Unreal Developement Kit
SDK - Source Developement Kit
UDK runs with the 'Unreal' Engine
SDK runs with the Source Engine
Its Source SDK, where SDK stands for Software Development Kit :)
unreal
So it's not about Alyx and it's not on the Source Engine. So basically it's not the same mod and the mod is dead. Thanks for letting us know at least. So many others wait like a year before announcing death.
We are not 100% killing the mod, We are moving to an engine we can use. We can't find a programer and UDK alows us to do alot of it with out a programer. Heck if we do this right you wont know it's in UDK
Well, We can keep it on sorce and alive if we can get our hands on a programer that won't leave after 2 week's.
Intresting. What programing do you need help with? I could try to help if it's not so fancy.

If you are moving to UDK you should just cancel it.
Not trying to be mean or anything but Half-Life belongs on Source not UDK.
well if it's still a history about Alyx i guess it will still be interesting to play
I agree, as long as it remains about Alyx, it will be interesting to play. :)
But Alyx is copyrighted ;)
It's not that we don't want to leave Source, we would stay on Source if there were more people making content for it -- the amount of content created for Source has dropped in the recent years, people have ultimately left the Source engine and have gone onto much easier, manageable engines such as CryEngine, Unreal and Unity that have bigger communities and support.
Source 2 is also in development so that could also be a possibility (halting this project until that comes out, I reckon it's going to be a huge game changer and will push the modding community back up to as it was only a few years ago).
Also as we wait for source 2, We will be flexing our legs with a new mod as well.
Unreal 3 is good for game making. Probably the best out there. But it won't have the same feel if it was made in source. Isn't this a mod anyway? Copyrights shouldn't effect you if you are not collecting profits.
But if the team has already made the decision to make the switch, then congrats, UDK is a very good tool! Also, you should think about switching the page over to IndieDB, cause it won't really be a mod anymore.
Copyright? You dont have any copyrights if you are doing a FREE mod.

Why don't you try using something similar to Garry's Mod's Lua implementation? Lua would probably help make coding easier.
