Post news Report RSS Log#1: Breaking Down

Even walking can be exciting...if the floor is breaking away beneath you!

Welcome to the first devlog for Chibi Ninja Shino-kun: Treasure of Demon Tower! It's a small one, but we all have to start somewhere, right?

Shino-kun is a platformer at heart, so a big part of the challenge will consist of having to jump around without falling on your face. Unfortunately whoever built Demon Tower didn't want to pay for the best contractors, so the entire thing is basically a lawsuit waiting to happen. Just look at these platforms:

One step and they break apart after one second! Scandalous. You'd think that someone who wants to protect their legendary treasure would spring for platforms that aren't made from bread crumbs stuck together with a glue stick.

It's not all bad, however: If you're daring enough you can create some pretty intense action scenes:

*Indiana Jones music intensifies*

Joking aside though, I'm not 100% sure I like the visual design of these but I am still a bit proud of that crumble effect. I wrote a bit of code to split a sprite into several subsprites and I can apply it to pretty much any image. Fun fact: It's an improved version of the function I used to create the breakable walls in [Speer]!

That's it for this first log but I have many more in the pipeline, so stay tuned! And if you want even more updates and sneak peeks, follow me on Twitter @ohsat_games!

Thanks for reading, I'll see you next time!
