Leap Motion has released a new development build of the firmware for its hand tracking controller. Named Orion, this firmware purportedly sports vast improvements to the tech, many of which are showcased in the above video.
Leap Motion elaborates on some of the main improvements, including better tracking when your hands are at the edges of the controller's field of view, the ability to shift your in-game view without moving your actual position, as well as increased hand detection range.
Of course, this is a promotional video working under ideal conditions, so it's always tricky to gauge just how accurate these improvements are. To this end, Road To VR surfaced a user-made video using the new Orion tech, and the result is just as impressive as Leap Motion's own footage:
The beta version of the new software is available now for developers. VR games such as SpellBound are being designed around the use of the Leap Motion as their primary form of input, so we can't wait to see what these developers can do with the new Orion firmware.
Epic!
