Ok you may have noticed that the site has been a bit sluggish as of late, among a fair bit of downtime. The reason? Well the moddatabase simply put, has outgrown the server it currently lives on. This comes as no surprise considering the site logs over a million webpage hits daily, thanks to all you modification fans! Anyhow as such the site is having to be shifted.

Unfortunatly this will mean a little bit of downtime. The first move is only temporary, just to ensure modDB does not kill this webserver again.. however the second move will be to a server farm, dual Pentium Xeon's, 1gig DDR ram. It shall be sweet, modDB will load before one can blink, and hopefully a problem such as this won't happen again (at least for quite some time :P) It may also allow mod download file mirroring, no more dependance on fileplanet hopefully :)

Anyhow, I just wanted to take some time out to thank the moddatabase's awesome host Oktagone. Why? Well for starters they provide these servers, which cost a packet to run let me assure you. Last month alone the moddatabase pushed out 150gigs worth of data. Secondly, how do you think the modDB fancy URL system works? like the millions of subdomains, not to mention all the folders? It is due to a custom server script which allows such awesome things. So yeah I know this is a shameless plug but Oktagone truely deserves it!

So yeah, if you are in need of the FINEST hosting on the planet seriously stop by Oktagone and check out their deals... oh and no i am not an oktagone employee and no I was not paid to say this... honestly!!

It is not me wanting money though, it be nice to give oktagone a little for all they do. At the moment this shall not happen but with the move to the new server, i shall be devising various ways to somehow pay back oktagone

Yeah, I can say myself that INtense! isn't just saying that. They really are good hosts. I feel bad for all my fellow Jedi Outcast modders who have to be hosted by JKII.net or GeoCities :O.
