Viveport is HTC’s new digital content distribution platform for the HTC Vive VR headset. It’s not a direct competitor to Steam; rather, it exists to provide more non-gaming VR content that doesn’t have a natural fit within Steam itself. That includes things like VR experiences, 360-degree movies, commercial and educational VR applications, and more.
Viveport launched in 30 countries last month. In addition to the platform itself, HTC also announced the Viveport Developer Awards, which will seek to recognise strong new VR developers who publish on the Viveport store with potential rewards from a pool of US$500,000 in cash and prizes.
