Following on from similar price and date announcements from HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift, Microsoft have announced that the developer edition of their Hololens, will begin shipping in 30 days time. Preorders will open in 24 hours, with a starting price of $3000 USD each and a limit of two per application.

The AR headsets will come with the games: Fragments, Young Conker, and RoboRaid as well as the software: Skype and Holotour a "360-degree panoramic displays of places like Rome and Machu Picchu."

"we are looking for a wide spectrum of developers to create diverse experiences"

Also given the headset is targeted at developers only, it will include the necessary: tutorials, videos and tools to help them begin creating games and apps for the platform.

What ideas does our community have for holographic computing? We are interested to see where this takes gaming and transforms the way "we communicate, create, collaborate, and explore."

I know that it basically has a built in computer but 3000 still feels way too much. Maybe I'm just poor though and its not as insane as I consider it to be.

Holographic computing is pretty insane. Mind you, this is targeted at developers only. I suspect once the consumer version is here the price will have come down a considerable amount.

If I had 3,000 dollars on me now, then I would have bought it right away.
Never thought that something like this would have come so fast.

People should be more aware that Hololens' projected area can fit 15 times in current gen VR's FOV (Vive, Rift, PSVR).

Yes, that surprised me about their tech. I was expecting an immersive experience once using the headset, but you've only got a very small FOV.
