For the fairly corny reason of simply being unsatisfied with the previous build of my current project, HIKIBYOU2, I had decided to make several changes. It's still looking quite rough and I do intend to improve upon my game until completion. Like all of my other games, development is handled entirely by myself.
Below is some footage I've taken of myself playing around with the current build of HIKIBYOU2:
HIKIBYOU2 is an action/adventure platfomer with puzzle and stealth elements to be released for the PC. Differentiating itself from the first title in the series, Hikikomori No Chuunibyou, is this successor’s less realistic approach and more atmospheric vibe. Levels are once again open-ended with the story directing the player.
Regarding the changes I've made to this project, I'm currently going for something with a more intuitive feel and smoother flow. Also, my influences for this title have drastically shifted towards titles such as Cave Story, the Knytt series, and the Momodora series. Previously, I had intended to make a cinematic platformer, as displayed in the previous video I've posted.
Further inspiration for this game comes from the likes of anime such as the Monogatari series, Madoka Magica, Durarara, and Mekakucity Actors while my slightly higher preference towards mystery, slice-of-life, and romance anime will definitely be apparent. Chuunibyou will also be touched upon a bit more in this title than the last since it is a fairly notable aspect in a few of the other anime inspiring me with this game.
More to come!
