German gaming magazine GameStar did some digging - and probably used their magic eight ball as well - and according to the clues they have dug up, Half-Life 2 just might make it onto store shelves later this year, five years after the release of the original game.
It's all speculation of course, but on a slow Saturday, what else is there to do?
According to the site, a few of the major points are:
- Half-Life 2 will be shown at this year's E3
- the game uses the Quake III engine
- the sequel will be "darker" than the first game
- Gordon Freeman is the main character
- Half-Life 2 will be released this November

Gamestar says they will be releasing some more info on the game in the next few days, and will also have an update on the whereabouts of Team Fortress 2.
As seen on Evil Avatar
Now I don't know whether this is true or not, It's a bit strange that a German site has the info first.
But if this is true it is one of the best kept secrets in the gaming industry, there have been NO leaked shot or early code.
If it IS true I also owe CheapAlert an appolagy :P
But I wonder what valve are going to sue that D3 license for?
November??
This year??
It can't be real
Darker? Like heads blowing up?
Doubtful...yet maybe not :D
November?? 2003?!?! It can't be real... but if it is, OMG I CAN'T WAIT!!! :D
Quake 3 engine..i thought they'd make one or use a nice powerful one.
Lol your joking right?
The quake 3 engine is the most used and most versatile engine to date.
yeah right, this just sounds like a load of crap to me
Quake 3 is a nice engine, but I'll be *very* suprised if HL2 uses it.
Whats there to be surprised about? Halflife the original uses the Quake 1 engine, when valve begun developing HL 2 Quake 3 engine was probably the best around...
Still I am a skeptic always shall be... i just honestly cannot see this happening. If it does well, good work for keeping it under wraps and once again it looks like valve will release a new game not using the latest engine available ;)
Well the thing is, Valve hasn't gone out and said this isn't true.
Then again, they've been quiet all around lately, probably withdrawn to get some serious work done on the game instead of all these updates.
I do know that one of my favorite illustrators was recently hired by Valve to do texture work, and that she's extremely busy, so that's a good indicator that they're very hard at work on a new game.
Seriously it doesnt matter what engines as long as ppl can run it. ITS HL2 for god sakes.
I guess I was under the impression that Valve was building it's own in-house engine. That was the last we heard of TF2, I assume it would be the same for HL2.
I wont complain that it's Q3 engine....I love it. Just have one of those "oh..." moments.
from the interview I sent than this post would be confirmed or not. But they wont email me back.
Half-Life 2 will be released in September 30th 2003, not Novemember
also Half-Life 2 uses a Engine Built by Valve, not Quake 3.. just a Engine they spent 5 years on starting out with Havok Physics
