A free demo of Half-Life 2 will be released later today. Featuring some of the amazing digital actors and physical gameplay that has made Half-Life 2 the leading contender for Game of the Year 2004, the demo takes players through some of the early levels of the game and later transports them to the area of the game known as Ravenholm. The demo will debut on ATI.com, and requires a Steam account to install. For more information about Half-Life 2, please visit www.half-life2.com..

Edit: Seems like the download has been released, people are posting mirrors in the comments, but I will post the mirror I have handy which is the FilePlanet one. Its a hefty 751MB, the size of a decent game from a year or two ago! -ShortCutMan

Well, it's out. Another source of bitching is going to be that it's under 'Limited time offers' on the ATI site which, presumably, is in error.

Two more excuses to have a cry are not being able to play the demo on an account with the full version registered to it and the demo not coming out straight away after it was announced.

Counter-Strike is a fun game buy by god does it screw up the community.

Steam is good, people just aren't used to it.

I mean valve is revolutionizing things in how they deliver games and all that, and well you can't expect perfection....

Oh and it's available limitedly on the ATI site for a while, and will then go on all the other major sites (meaning for a short while, it will _only_ be found at ati.com )

The game is great, everyone should buy it because think that one 50 dollar purchase you bought back in '98 lasted you all up to this year with mods and all... I wonder how far HL2 will go :) Well not as far, probably 2-3 years until HL2 but still, a helluva lot longer than most other games!

Valve got no sense of good PR, most game devs. release a demo BEFORE the game is released.
Valve does the opposite.

Thats just dumb.

Why delay the game for a demo?
I don't understand why people wanted them to DELAY THE GAME AGAIN just to release a demo.

And it has no new content, it is just part of the beginning and a little bit of Ravenholm.

Do I need to call the WAAAmbulance? The number is 922 (waa).

Um, the same thing happened to Far Cry, Doom 3, and Painkiller. The demo was released after the game. This is for those who are still thinking about whether or not to purchase the game, so it's not something new.

The game wasn't delayed, by the way, to release the demo. It was actually released about the time VALVe said it would come out, so there :P
