You probably don't realise this, but Malevolence: The Sword of Ahkranox has a rich and detailed back-story and in-game history, and its world will be chock full of books filled with history, poetry, stories and journal entries that flesh this story out for you as you play. It's entirely up to the player wether they read things or not, but doing so will help them understand more about the rich, interesting world that they are in.

Due to this, we've finally knocked out the reading feature

So now while you're traipsing around in the game, you'll come across all sorts of books to read, filled with all sorts of interesting tidbits. We have three writers on the project and will likely get many many more once the full version swings into gear! But expect to find all sorts of fun little glimpses into the world of Ahkranox when you play the demo at the end of the year!

Love that kind of stuff, lately RPG games abandoned this and is a shame, because little things like that IMO help to make you explore wanting to know more of what it sorrounds you.

I still remember reading every book (even if they were short) in baldur's gate, and even the training books in Morrowind.

Glad you like the idea! I've always been the same personally, and we figured that the world of Malevolence is too detailed not to have some interesting history and stories for people to read!

This is the kind of feature that makes the difference between an 'RPG' and a Role Playing Game, as opposed to simply 'playing' you are immersing yourself into the world and actually 'role-playing'. I remember reading the books in Neverwinter Nights (love that game) they added so much to the experience :D

Keep up the great work!
Side note: Are you planning a demo for this game?

Thank you! We love reading in-game literature, too! Yes, we're hoping to release a demo this Christmas! It's going to be hitting our alpha test team in the next couple of weeks, and then hopefully be ready for the world by Christmas. We're experiencing a few video card compatability issues, though, but hopefully that doesn't delay it too long!

Btw, the demo is HUGE.

Books/Journals/Tomes of various kind is a must in a RPG.

Unthinkable Crawling tru a Dungeon and NOT finding any Books!

Then you'll be pleasantly surprised! We're planning on having literally several hundred at least!

Great feature! I loved reading books in Oblivion and learning about the history. Keep the surprises coming!

As you can already tell from the glowing feedback in this thread... this is an awesome feature. Things like this make it clear that the developer loves and engages in the world they are creating.

Yes indeed! Definitely helps the ol' morale when we get feedback like this! We want the game to be as immersive as humanly possible, so there will be much more content like this coming, including some pretty damn incredible music! *wink*
