Post news Report RSS Future and direction moving forward (mod isn't dead)

Just a quick update about the state of the mod, the future of it, and where I'm going from here!

Hello all, long time since my last post and I’m sorry for that. Life, work etc can get the better of you sometimes, but it’s still on me for not updating more often. I wanted to reach out to both say good news as well as bad news about the state of the mod. Good news first! The mod is not dead, in fact I’ve still been working on the mod since my last post as well as a Bannerlord mod (but that’s a discussion for another time) during this time I’ve been honing in on blender skills, as well as animation and texture work!

The added content includes things like higher quality models, better audio files, and vehicles like ships for the factions! Which is where I now divert into the bad (sad) news….The mod isn’t dead, however it is in a very frustrating situation. The modding scene for DOW1 is a difficult one to get into, with the mod tools being obtuse to locate and hard to work, with sometimes little documentation on how to use any of it (the mod tools are stuck on archaic forms of 3dsmax) leaving me stuck in place.

I want to mod for DOW DC it’s one of my favorite strategy games and would love to see a halo mod come to fruition, however with the tools being difficult to acquire/ use I may have to abandon the idea of modding for DC all together and move on to either DOW2 (which I’m not the biggest fan of it’s more limited scope) or Empire at War (but will have to drastically change the ground battles to play more like DOW 1 with base building mechanics)

I don’t really know where to go from here, and I’m sincerely sorry if you all were excited to play DOW with a halo twist as I was. Sadly my hands are tied. If you have any experience modding for these games (EAW, DOW 1 or 2) feel free to reach out! I’m more than willing to hear from people and would like input!

Also last but not least I have started a discord server for those interested in keeping up to date with anything relating to Sacred Icon mod. I’ll paste the link below!

Discord.gg

Anyway that’s all for this lengthy update. Hope you are doing well and are having happy holidays!

Excited to see where this project goes. I recommend using Soulstorm instead for the 4gb patch, but I'm glad all of the original Dawn of War games are getting this much love.

PS - The hardest thing to program will be the flood if only because having the ai replace the squad where a corpse is on the screen with SCAR coding might be impossible.
