Post news Report RSS Fully Patched v0.1 Alpha Available!

I have personally created a fully patched patched version of the old alpha(the version from the videos) it is now available for download! Plus, I got some other updates as well...

Hello everyone, first of all, I wanna thank all of our supporters for keeping us going and providing all your positive feedback. I know we had a rough time in the last news update, and there was a lot of controversy over the videos we posted, but don't worry, we've got everything cleared up and explained.

The first update for today is, I've updated the forum, website, YouTube channel, and ModDB pages. I think the updates will make everything a little easier and clearer, because we all know how important that is.

The second update is that I have fully patched and configured an installer program for the old alpha(the version from the videos). I've got it uploaded and all you need to do is download it, open up the ZIP file I put it in, read the install file I also worked up, and there you go, you can play the old developer build of Unit 648: First Encounter. All you need to have installed and ran once is Half-Life 2. If there are any bugs, or you have suggestions, please post in the forum, and me or the other staff members will address your issues immediately. Do note that it is buggy and has issues, but for the most part, there shouldn't be too many problems.

To download, visit our downloads page for the link.

PLEASE: Don't post any bugs that are in the bug list in the install log. Also, Counter Strike: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch will install a VERY small portion of files, so don't be alarmed, the old alpha is playable if you remove them.

Also, I know there was a lot of controversy over the videos that threw our news post into a war zone, so I would like to clarify all of this right now, so there are no negative comments, please. The old alpha was configured heavily from SMOD: Redux for testing purposes only. That is not the case for the newer builds of the mod. This playable alpha, the one that is now patched and available for download, is the only actual build we use of SMOD. NONE of the fonts, content, or anything else will be in later builds. We have entirely progressed beyond using SMOD for testing our mod, so please, don't be alarmed.

The third update is that I am trying to advertise our company and Unit 648: First Encounter a lot more. I have submitted our old beta to ModPlay, and I have also applied to join the SteaMania network. Hopefully they agree, and we could form some sort of alliance that could benefit us both. Please, tell your friends about us, it would be greatly appreciated.

Well, thats all for now. I hope you enjoyed this update, and I'll talk to you guys soon. Thanks!

There is an installer which puts the mod files into your sourcemods folder in C:/ProgramFiles/steam/steamapps/ Then. follow the instructions on the GCFScape section in the readme to officially run the mod. You must have Half-Life 2 installed and ran at least once.

like I said, ive tried whats on the readme. theres the hl2 and reslists folders on the GCFScape file it told me to extract top the mod maps folder. i did so and nothing. ive tried extracting bits of it, tried extracting the maps folder on the file to the maps folder on the mod, etc...

also, why didnt you just made the installer, oh jeez i dunno, install that already, you could had obviously put those files properly instead of giving out instructions that dont work :|

Umm, the instructions do work?

Gonna make this brief:
1. Download FE: Fileplanet.com
2. Download BOTH patches: Fileplanet.com
and Fileplanet.com
3. Extract them APPROPRIATELY, FOLLOWING DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS!
4. Download GCFScape (very useful for browsing hidden HL2 content)
5. You might need to restart your computer, now; go into C:\Steam\steamapps... You should notice a bunch of bookcase-looking folders. Go into the one titled "half life 2 content" and extract all the Maps into FE's Map Folder in Steam/steamapps/sourcemods/smodfe...

Try this...

First. If the proper bookcase folder titled, "half-life 2 content" is not there, then your files are corrupted or lost.

Second. You need to double-click the bookcase file titled, "half-life 2 content" to be able to view the map GCF's of Half-Life 2.

Three. If neither of those work, than you are doing something wrong. Could you explain step-by-step of what you are doing if these do not solve your problem.

it either wont load at all, or it will load the HL2 standard campaign with barely any voices but with some new textures

i've tried extracting both folders from "half-life 2 content" to the mod's folder and what ZombineJenks said with no result

There is nothing to load, the old beta was the HL2 Campaign and two Mini-Missions, these all can be selected by the "New Game" option on the main menu. As for the voices, there should be new voices for Replica soldiers, which, depending on the chapter of the HL2 campaign you are playing, will appear. There are some 300 audio responses to any situation a Replica soldier encounters, so if you are fighting a soldier, and move behind some sort of cover, they will say, 'Flush him out with a grenade" or something similar, and the AI will accordingly throw a grenade at you.
