The path to the tiny MMO, FROG. This is the first of a series of posts about the game's development.

~~ This is the first of a few posts that I have about my learnings from releasing my first game FROG~~

For years I have have been set on an idea for a game that has been too large for me to undertake with my current skills. I was attached to it, tried restarting it many times and could not let go it.

I needed to take a step back and take on some smaller projects to build up momentum and my confidence. After making some small prototypes, what emerged from this was a small idea that for some unknown reason stuck. A game about frogs in a pond. There would be no objective, no crazy mechanics, just a small experience where you can have a laugh with friends and don’t have to worry about anything.

The ambitious part of this project was the fact that it would be an online multiplayer where your friends could join a server and be able to be frogs together.

After about three months of development, I am ready to call it a day on my work for FROG and I released the game on April 8th.

Along the way, I have learned a lot around building and shipping a game and I have built up some ideas for the next games that I am going to launch into after this.

If you are having trouble starting out with your first big idea, maybe you should take a step back and just set aside a few months to let yourself wander. Operate based off of whim and make the small silly things that normally just live as passing “Wouldn’t it be funny if…” thoughts. Who knows where it will take you but it will be probably something that you will be excited about! You can always come back to the original project after with some new skills and perspective.

I will post more regularly now about my development just to keep track of where my head is at and to demo some cool things that pop up.

Check out FROG here and keep in touch because I want you to be a part of what is up to come!
