Today, we are proud to present to you the demonstrational package of our mod.
Since it has been taking time for us to finesse the gameplay elements for full release, we wanted to get something out there to our loyal fans. The demo version features prototype systems where you can check out all the ships that will be available in the final build. Also, you can fight in basic NPC battles.
Another reason for a demo release was the opportunity to test our multiple enhancements to the Freelancer graphics engine on a multitude of different systems. Please note that some of our more recent achievements (shadows, distortion mapping, etc..) did not make the final cut. However, rest assured that we will be updating the demo with fixes and improvements. Also, we plan on expanding the demo later on - stay tuned for more details!
But now, have fun flying around and shooting stuff in our demo! Download links below:

From the Freeworlds: Tides of War development team, we thank you for your continued support of this mod.
Wow.. Congratulations on reaching this milestone! Will download this asap!
Thank you!
Love the TPB endorsement

The demo is really nice, the cockpit views are awesome. Though I find the demo system a bit boring, no planets there and such, nothing really there to discover, no jobs, etc. (which makes it really hard to buy some of the ships (bomber) which cost >1million credits) ;)
And I've got heavy FPS drops, especially at the spawn area and during fights (down to 10fps), even with my i7 2600k and an HD7950 :/
Nevertheless, great work so far and I can't wait for the final release. I'm impressed by the graphical changes in that old engine!
By having all the new computer systems to test the on the team are finding ways to improve performance. Give us a few days, you'll see some drastic improvements. THanks for the kind words :)
Wasper it is probably because the 2600k is a quad core processor, and freelancer, being old and stuff, can only use one of the cores, giving freelancer a miniscule amount of processing power compared to single core. Let's not forget that if you hyperthread your cpu the processing power distributed to freelancer would become even smaller than *censored innapropriate reference* , and even though your graphics card kicks ***, the CPU still plays an important role in preformance, and even vanilla with its crappy graphics requires a minimum of 600mhz of cpu, so its no wonder that fwtow has some fps drops on your pc.
... Wow, that was by far the best explanation of CPU power distribution I've EVER read. That was a job VERY well done good sir.
You probably realized by now that I have no life at all, replying to comments using near-full sentences and miniessays... Thanks anyways.
Being a modern, CPU, the 2600K is able to mostly offset this, actually. It'll shut down two or even three of its cores and overclock the last running one to provide peak performance. Combined with the high clocks the SB processors have and the much more modern architecture, even in single-threaded workloads a 2600K will smoke any single-core CPU you can find.
Nah, in this case I'd say there's a currently unknown bug causing slowdowns. We're still investigating on a fair few of them.
Last night was amazing :D
A big cheers on reaching this far, again, thank you for this demo ^^ you really didn't need to, but you guys are awesome :D
Very kind. Thanks for playing it!
Do we need Freelancer or not ?
Yes, you need Freelancer,
Hey I just signed up to give you my kudos, great tech demo! Really looking forward to playing the whole galaxy ;-)
Thanks an keep up the great work!
Glad you like it. Thanks for the support.
I got a bug. The ship models don't show up in space.
are you forcing AA with your graphics card drivers? that will cause that issue.
Yes. Is there any way to enable AA ? FXAA doesn't seem to do his job.
Nevermind, FXAA does his work pretty good in game.
I thought you guys had forgotten about this. :O
Congrats on this demo release guys. Well done.
Hey is somebody gonna make a video of his first impressions about the demo and upload it to YouTube?
I sure hope so ;)
The Pirate Bay eh? Ain't this place illeagal?
Anyway, I love what you did with the game! You made so much improvements to the engine that you can call it Freelancer Engine 2.0!
Knives can be used for murder, therefore all knives should be banned.
TPB is just the most popular torrent site that we know of, so it makes sense to use it and perhaps attract more people through it.
Well, I like the idea.
BTW a little bug report: When I minimize the game (alt+tab) it makes my screen black and keeps playing the music, and then I can't come back to the game. Maybe its a problem with the resolution? (1680x1050)
Nope. It's a known bug. We're looking to resolve it. Players have said hitting Alt + F4 sometimes brings the game back.
Finally, ive been waiting for this moment since you created the page :D
I've bought a copy of the game for me and a friend just to play this mod!
That's great news. I hope you enjoy it :D
