Our primary aim at Mod DB is to make it as easy as possible to find great mods and indie games, without having to scour the net and jump through hoops to get them. We absolutely hate it when we see great game content hosted by sites like Rapidshare. Sites which make you wait and push ads which tarnish the hard work you put into presenting your mod (or game) as professionally as possible.
Following Filefronts shock announcement 3 weeks ago (yes yes we know they are back), we decided to take immediate steps to make sharing and getting great content from Mod DB as easily as possible. We have taken the first step toward achieving that aim today by providing a dedicated download mirror to all guests and visitors, by serving your file straight away and doesn't ask you to sacrifice a kitten in the process. So to all our members and anonymous guests enjoy, we hope we have made your day and have enabled you to play and share even more great game content that we have come to expect from all the developers on ModDB.
that's good to hear, really. I absolutely hate the houston one, and withouth filefront the future was looking rather grim... nice to know that we have more options
filefront is okay.
and I'm pretty sure that downloads travel at the speed of light so....
(please note: I am not sure of this, its just a guess)
They dont, the world is not connected by fiber optic. But this does mean great things for ModDB. It means your files will always be safe now.
Actually, deathbal101 is fairly close on this one: even in copper wiring, the electric signal propagates at about 60% - 70% of the speed of light in that medium. :)
I wish I had fiber optic :(
Anyways, it will be great to have a new mirror to choose from. That was the main reason I liked Sourceforge-- they have a billion mirrors all over the world. Now ModDB is one mirror closer :D
I am glad filefront is back.
That's good news! The new mirror will surely be useful to both Mod DB itself and the members and guests.
Great news! Should help shield against any further troubles with third party mirrors.
"doesn't ask you to sacrifice a kitten in the process"
What on earth will I do with all these kittens now then? Can I get compensation? Well, Henley, well?!
Great stuff though guys, good job!
I welcome our new Amsterdam server!
If you guys ever need someone to visit the server and keep it company just let me know. I will gladly sacrifice some time to visit it and have it show me around town ;)
this is wonderful!
i am really happy to see this news.
great work.
Ahh fantastic news,
Didnt ModDB have mirrors quite a long time ago? Or wasnt the EU allowed to access them?
we did, but they were always capped and monitored as bandwidth isn't cheap. our new EU server is uncapped and available for use. We are still looking for US partners and may have a US option soon, thou this should be fast for anyone, worldwide.
if people dont know they shud read this: https://farewell.gamefront.com/
FYI Welcome.gamefront.com
Good job securing this guys, I'd hate to have to job of setting it up :P
Took 3 hours to copy 600gig, site was a little sluggish during this period but it is setup and running now, so we are very happy :D
That means speedy downloads for all again :D
Finally!!! a new ModDB server...
Nicely done ModDB team. :)
very well done
A toast to the future of moddb!
Let's Test it >:) ....Great Job ...were is the server in what country...??
That's fantastic news!
Yay! Thanks so much ModDB!!!
thank you very much Mod DB, from now on i will have to upload my files only once. very comfortable! good job.
Good Job Moddb. FF is ******* slow to me
Woohoo finally. :D
Just downloaded the Project 25 mod at full speed. Excellent mirror.
Dwonloading Zombie Master now, only 69mb. Using the EU server, and for some reason, it barely breaks 100kbs. I am closer to the EU server than the Heuston one, so I am confuzzled.
Can you send me a PM so i can investigate?
Thanks
Thanks, moddb guys!
thx moddb, u rock.
greetz.
awesome.
As a European, I'm very glad to see this. :)
Woohoo!
AWESOME!1one
Love the new server, getting some blazing speeds now. Keep up the good work moddb crew!
Greate that there is a server in EU now :D
The only problem with FileFront is that it dosen't support download managers, so downloading takes SO MUCH time...
Anyway, I'll give it a try.
now we need a AUSSIE (melboure) sever then i'll be happy plz get one
We will have an AU mirror very soon :-)
Yes! thanks guys!
hurrah!
*Looks outside of the window*
Ah, there it is! *waves to the Mod DB server*
I think it's faster to hop over to the server and use an USB-stick than to download it directly, but I'm very happy with this new server ^^
Interesting that you used our concept art for the news icon ;)
