For a long time now the Mod Database has been working towards obtaining a download server we have 100% control and ownership of. With the legions of dedicated modders visiting the place, this task shouldn't be too difficult however it has always been an aim not to ask for donations, or request paid subscription as doing so just down-right sucks. We took the first step towards securing a download server last week by running larger banner ads up top. This move is already paying off; with our site now earning 80% of what it costs to run it! We do however need to find the remaining 20% and this is where step 2, and the final step for the time being, comes into action.
Advertise on the Mod Database!
Google Ads prove a little boring at times, so we've decided to open the ad system to anyone for just $4.00 a month! All we need is 30 or so members / mod teams to find this 'chump change', sign up and voila things are looking good! This we decided is much better than asking for donations since everyone gets something in return. The Mod Database & Members get a download server to upload / download from as they please, we get cool ads up top (we’re hoping lots of mod teams join and show off their goods!) and the advertisers get their banner shown to some of our 600,000 (and growing) visitors monthly for less than a meal at McDonalds.
So if you want a download server... can afford $4.00 a month and want to promote your mod / company, SIGN UP NOW!

fix what logo? and just advertise your mod.. yourself anything :D its more of a scheme for people to contribute a tiny amount towards getting a download server for everyone

You pay via paypal. Once you have uploaded your banner and previewed it etc.. you will be promoted for payment. You can change your payment as pleased. SWF isn't supported yet but i shall add support for it tonight for you.
but the only payment and activation links are $12 and up. im on the activate page now...

we offer a minimum of 3months advertising. So thats $4 a month for 3 months. We would charge just $4 but then, too much would be lost in fees.
Nothing against moddb or smth, but im paying 4$/month for one *.com domain + 500 mb webspace + unlimited traffic.
, then you could advertise your .com with 500mb space and unlimited traffic on the world's premier modding website. Actually use the unlimited traffic!
, we decided $4.00 was good value and the money is going towards more than just advertising, 100% of it is been pumped back into the modding world. Its 100% optional and we're only hoping / needing a few people to help out.
Oh and the reason why the mod database needs money, is we need a webserver which will allow us to serve between roughly 5 to 20 terabytes of data monthly from at least 1 ~ 2, 250gig harddrives :D unfortunatly that sorta thing does not come cheap

Thanks alot BattleLead. We've negoiated a 100megabit server for roughly $200USD a month. We are also working on partnerships with various filehosting sites and should have a working download / upload system implemented within a months time.

Yeah, people who sign up and pay will also receive other benefits such as previewing new moddb features.. testing out the download system first etc :D

So far 1 day gone, my ad has been clicked 92 times and viewed 4,233 times.
Let me explain how the system works so everyone understands it 100%
Basically the Mod Database needs roughly 160USD monthly to run a download server. At present google ads earn about 100USD monthly. Therefore at 4USD a month, we need roughly 15 other advertisers to push that margin up.
To make it fair for everyone, i've coded in a system whereby the more advertisers we sign up more they are shown.
Here is the breakdown.
If we have 4 or less advertisers, they are shown 1 in every 7 visitors
Between 4 and 10 advertisers, they are shown to 1 in every 6 visitors
10 and 20 and that are shown 1 in every 4 visitors
20 or more and they are shown to 1 in every 2 visitors
Now this might not seem overly generous, however considering the mod database gets over 100,000 page views daily, this equates to over 2,000 impressions daily. So over a month your $4 gets about 60,000+ impressions.
Thats pretty darn good, and besides the money is better than just donating to the download server since you get something in return. So everyone who keeps saying this is a great service.. sign up! We need you all to chip in, because i for one want to see plenty of cool mod ads up there :D

Anyone in their right mind will snap this deal up. $4 / month for targeted traffic from a reliable source. You'd have to be nuts not to take this offer.
