A sneak peak of the Qing and Joseon focuses and lore.

Posted by on

Welcome to the second Dev Report for The Daimyo Era mod. Today, we will be looking at the Qing and Joseon Dynasties lore and focus trees.

Joseon Lore

In 1927, following the Showa Economic Crisis, the Korean people overthrew the collaborationist regime that had ruled Korea since 1910. Upon ousting the collaborators, the Yi Dynasty reinstalled itself as rulers of Korea proclaiming a new era for Korea; officially bringing the Japanese Occupation to an end. However, the nation now deals with left-wing socialist and communist revolutionaries, staunch monarchists, and right-wing conservatism and fascist supporters all vying for control over Korea.

Joseon Tree

The Joseon focus tree is split into two branches: a political/military branch, and a smaller industrial branch. The political branch is split into three sub-branch: a left wing, a monarchist, and a right wing sub-branch.

To the Left Sub-branch

The To the Left Sub-branch is split into five mutually exclusive focuses:

  • A Socialist Government
  • A Stalinist President
  • Juche Ideals
  • Military Marxism
  • and A Marxist President

A Socialist Government focus gains the socialist democrat, Yu Bo-seon as the head of the Korean Socialist Party and forces a change in government to socialism. From there, you can turn towards the Allies and bring about a socialist push throughout Asia (focuses did not exist when I uploaded the screenshots) .

A Stalinist President focus sets the Workers' Party of Korea as your ruling party and gains Kim Tu-Bong as the party ruler. From there, you can create the Yan'an Faction; a communist alliance with Mao and Sheng Shicai.

The Juche Ideals focus sets the Workers' Party of Korea as your ruling party and gains Kim Il-Sung as the party ruler. From there, you can forge a communist alliance with Mao Zedong or join Stalin's revolutionary cause.

The Military Marxism focus sets General Kim Chaek as the WPK ruler introducing an anarchist military rule. From here you can ally with Stalin.

The final sub-branch is A Marxist President. This will allow for famed revolutionary politician, Lyuh Woon-hyung to take over as head of the WPK. From here (although the screenshots don't show it), you will be able to bring about the view of so-called "Korean Socialism"; essentially Marxism with Korean Sentiments.

Status Quo Branch

The Status Quo sub-branch is built around the Yi Dynasty and closeness with the Qing. This has two mutually exclusive focuses:

  • The Eldest Son
  • and The Crown Prince

The Eldest Son focus allows you to instate the eldest son of Emperor Gojong of Korea, Yi Kang; despite the lower status of his mother, as Emperor of Korea.

The Crown Prince focus allows you to keep Prince Yi Un as ruler of Korea.

Both focuses allow you to offer an alliance with the Qing Dynasty for security in East Asia.

To the Right Branch

The To the Right sub-branch is built around fascist and conservative views. This has three mutually exclusive focuses:

  • A Military Junta
  • A Fascist Prince
  • and A Right Wing Union

A Military Junta focus deals with a fascist coup d'état carried out by Park Chung-hee installing a junta known as the SCNR.

A Fascist Prince focus deals with Yi Kang assuming power as the leader of the fascist party.

A Right Wing Union focus details a coalition government of the conservative National Party of Syngman Rhee and fascists to dismantle the communist and monarchist parties.

Through all of these right wing focuses, you can forge an alliance with Tsarist Russia and Mongolia to destroy the Soviets and their proxies.

Moving onto the Industrial branch.

A relatively simple branch, it deals with adding infrastructure and both civilian and military factories to complete the industrialisation of Korea.

Qing Lore

In 1911, following the Manchu Restoration, the Qing Dynasty of China has restored control of Beijing, Manchuria and Inner Mongolia. Now with China falling apart at the seams, the government of the Qing Dynasty now eye their former land eagerly.

Qing Tree

The Qing focus tree is split into two branches like the Koreans: a political/military branch, and a smaller industrial branch. The political branch is split into five sub-branch: a communist, a Qing restoration, a democratic, a pro-Japanese and a Han restoration sub-branch.

The Restore the Han focus changes the name of the Qing Dynasty to the Han Dynasty and changes the Non-Aligned party name to the Imperial House of Han. From there, you can create a new Liu Dynasty now lead by General-Emperor Liu Xiang.

The Kangde Restoration focus allows for fascist popularity build up leading to Puyi to change his name to Emperor Kangde to show a brand new era for the Qing Dynasty.

The Qing Constitution focus deals with turning the autocratic monarchy into a constitutional one while bringing around elections.

The Restore the Xuantong Era focus pretty much keeps with the same old era China had before the Xinhai Revolution.

The Support the Peasants focus is a turn towards a communist government which allows you to annex both Mao and Sheng Shicai's territories adding their strength to your own before annihilating the warlords.

Through all of the other focuses, you can prepare for war with the central Kuomintang, crush the warlords and send a guarantee of safety to Korea.

Moving onto the Industrial branch.

A relatively simple branch, it deals with adding infrastructure, dockyards and both civilian and military factories to complete the industrialisation of Qing China.

Well, thank you for coming to the end of my second Dev Report. Hope you enjoyed, and keep an eye out for the next update.

An anarchist branch for Korea based on the Korean People's Association in Manchuria would be a neat alternate history option, since those guys actually managed to take over a pretty big area in the 1920s

I am still working on the two trees, so I'll think about including a focus like that. Maybe a part of the Yan'an Faction focus.
