New 'Raider' hero:
The style of the new hero is inspired by characters such as the Tomb Raider or Rey of Star Wars. She is 25x22 pixels small and has 6 frames per run-cycle.
(The Raider hero in process)
Here's some of the layup in Aseprite (which is the program I'm using for some of the character animation):
In tonight's Twitch stream I will slowly be setting up the Hero room.
It wasn't as easy as I had thought but the moving platforms are all worth it! Bringing a new type of challenge to the levels. Basically I had to make another level of individuality in the tile system. And as the player feels that it's a movingPlatform it is standing or hanging on to, the momentum of the platform will be added to the player's horizontal movement variable. Perhaps I will get into to more in the stream.
(Moving platforms change direction is they collide with another obj_block
(which carries the mask of the tiles)
PROJECT STATUS: Overhaul
DASH is going through major changes because we're now out of the prototype and a teaser trailer is slowly on the way. As you can see the process is very organic, fun and intuitive. Of course there is a production plan and design document, but the feeling of freedom and creativity is very solid during these work days which is good because that's what you, the player, should feel when playing the game!
Next week I'll be solidifying the Hero room and the ability to choose and edit heroes.
Watch the development LIVE on the Baby Duka Twitch channel every Wednesday (8pm GMT) and Saturday (6pm GMT)! Updates here on this blog both days as well.
