“The best Oculus game you’ve ever played”
is no more. Criterion’s untitled extreme sports game has been cancelled, according to a report at Eurogamer. Criterion is best known for the Burnout series, and this new extreme sports game was designed to go “beyond cars”, in that it incorporated other vehicles such as jet skis, dune buggies, speedboats, helicopters, and more.

Speaking to Eurogamer, a spokesperson for EA, who was publishing the game, stated:

"While Criterion has moved on from the previous project they've spoken about and aren't pursuing it specifically, they are continuing to build new ideas and experiment with new IP for EA … Criterion is also working on EA's Star Wars Battlefront VR experience, and contributing to other games from EA, for example the speeder bikes in Star Wars Battlefront."

The cancelled game was designed to emulate the “GoPro” era of YouTube videos, being played from a first-person perspective and, according to Videogamer, designed with the Oculus Rift in mind. It’s unfortunate to see the project go, but it’s nice to know that Criterion is still working on other VR experiences for EA. We look forward to seeing their new experimental properties unveiled in the future.
