Another video feature, a look at the final concept for Pure, a note on our latest build, playtesting, and voting for Mod of the Year

Posted by on

Video

We have a final video to show off from our previous build before beginning to feature media from our new Scratch-SDK ported build.

It's a quick developer playtest featuring the District map and showing off a little bit more experienced duels.

Pure

David Boyle has finished up his work on Pure, and sent us over a cleaned up color version. You can expect to see her modeled and in-game in upcoming press releases.

Latest Build

Mike has informed the team that he feels this Saturday he will be able to wrap up the code rewrite and we'll be able to get out a new build to the testers with a lot of improvements and additions. Speaking of testers....

Beta Testing

We're going to be pulling more testers into the fold as we tune the mod more and more towards being as user friendly and accessible as possible. Therefore, we've opened up our Steam Community and are asking anyone interested in playtesting Berimbau to join up. We'll be inviting players directly from the Steam Community to test the game.

Addendum - We've reached around 50 testers now and are interested in doubling that number, so if you want to try out Berimbau early and give us your feedback to help shape the game, join the Steam Community!

Mod of the Year

We were lucky enough to make it to the Top 100 Unreleased Mods of 2008. We thank everyone for their support and it's fantastic to know you guys are watching our mod so closely. We now ask for your vote one more time as we enter Phase Two of voting, where the Top 100 are narrowed down to 5.

oh this is looking better and better every update. Do you guys plan on adding the option to "jump" in future releases? I think that can add more depth to the mod. It can open a lot more options to the player and also the level designs. Keep it up guys!

The light-effects are too bright, don't you think?
And the camera shouldn't clip through the wall..
Looks promising anyways ;)

Madness?! THIS...IS...SPAR- no wait, that's kinda old now. I agree, it's great to have such constant feedback. =P

That said, I love the new swordplay videos, they really show how the game looks more strategic and tactic-oriented when played by really experienced players. Earlier videos looked like they just rolled and jumped around swinging randomly, but in the latest videos they really look fluid and controlled at the same time. Keep up the good work! =D

I resent that... Just kidding! :P

Concept art is looking great, and the newest build is shaping up (if that's whats in the video). Yeah, I have to agree with WhiteHawke that the game looks alot different in experienced hands. Most of us during that first beta game were just attacking and retreating, rinse, wash, repeat.

This looks amazing! Don't think I've ever seen a HL2 mod with melee effects that looked this good. Great job!

Woo. More awesome gameplay videos; district is an awesome map, not like any of the others; i'm glad the developers of Berimbau aren't sticking to just one theme, they like to take things a bit modern too :D

Interesting mechanics and premise. Plus it looks nice. I hope it isn't just all particles and that there are strong fighting dynamics under all that white stuff. It's hard to tell from the trailer at times what the exact moves really are, though I definitely see a lot of variety and fluidity which is a major plus in my book.

I'm curious, though, will we have access to different styles for each character? For example, a more german broadsword approach versus a japanese kendo style or reversed griped stance. The last style would involve quite a bit more footwork since it relies on fast and tight motions.
