Alpha 5 (Full Release) Out Now! Full of all manner of new Wasteland goodies!

Posted by on

This release marks the end of 3 months of dogged chipping away at numerous bits and pieces throughout the mod.

This should Hopefully be the end of the A5 development, freeing us up to begin work on Alpha 6 (T.E.C.S) Build.
I wil be looking to release a design statement about what we hope to achieve with A6 in the near future, but for now enjoy all the yummy wasteland goodness that the A5 Full Release has to offer!

Alpha 5 Full Release

A5 Full Release contains a lot of new content, changes and fixes. We have done so much I can't even remember it all!

High Elder John MaxsonThe Master's RepresentativeHarold The GhoulTandi, First Lady Of The Wasteland!

But here are just a few of the Highlights:

New Maps!
2 modified Pangaea Maps with much increased landmass for greater land based wasteland goodness!
They will fill the role of a 'United States' Type landmass.
Fury Road also 'simulates' destroyed cities and infrastructure with clusters of ruins and broken highways.
All other maps have been removed to avoid map/gameplay breaking conflicts.

New Game Speeds:
For those of you that like faster games, we have added two faster game speeds to get the Wasteland Party Rolling!
Quick: 300ish turns
Normal: 600ish turns

Number Tweaking:
Loads of Stats across the board have been changed and tweaked.
Improvements now produce more.
Bonuse resources now produce more.
Buildings can make use of more Bonus Resources.
High End Units require larger cities to build.

New Resource Buildings Added:
Jet, Combat Drugs, and Books can now be produced by their Special Buildings.

Promotions:
These should now be fixed. You will find you are suddenly inundated with a whole heap of new promotions to choose from! (though we still have to make a whole lot more..)

New Art:
Vertibirds!!!!!!!!!

Story Event Prototype:
We Hopefully have this working, but tests are some what inconclusive... I have had them work properly when firing within about 10-20 turns of each other, but when played out over 100 turns it doesn't seem to work.. We continue to explore this issue! (They should currently trigger when you have a certain amount of gold in your treasury.)

I am sure I have done more than this over the last 3 months long, but I cannot remember anymore...(losing my patch folder didn't help!)

Installation:
Delete Previous Versions
Unzip to Desktop and move to Bts mod folder
Enjoy!

Note: If you are using windows 8.1 I have been experiencing some crashes when initialising the mod, just keep trying and it will work.
This seems to be 8.1 related and not mod related, as it never happened to me before I 'upgraded'.

Great to see that you release this ! The work you done looks amazing !

I wanted to help but I was so busy with my own mods that I totally forgot, forgive me :p

There are not any "Earth" map planned ? Would be amazing to be able to play on th whole map better than only the US ... :p

There are no plans for a 'Non-US'/'World' Version of the mod, as Fallout is set in the US.

So my plan is to try and replicate the F1-NV world of the US first.
Along with trying to make an enjoyable empire builder.

One day if I am not completely burnt out or dead and this idea is finished. I may go onto build a 'Tame the World' version, that looks at what modders like Project Brazil and the Fallout Australia mods did for factions and story lines and build up from those.

That however is a far flung day away and I have no actual ambition to do that...

(Just making this is tiring me out enough and I am along way from finished on what is in my head..)

'Full world' maps cause a lot of problems with mapscript for resources and start locations as well.

The single landmass is MASSIVE though, I just need to get the ai better at exploiting it so we can have a proper race to see who can fill it up the most! :D

I have an apology to make.

I forgot to compile a release version of the .dll with this upload...

What that means is you will get lots of 'assert' messages.. For now you can just click 'ignore all/always' on these then you will only see one of each.

I will fix this as soon as I get download the needed software (New Hard drive) and compile the release .dll then I will change the upload here.

Sorry about that guys... I was enthusiastic to be done and just plain forgot!

if you want to update all the necessary files to add a new civ, I will merge it in.

There just won't be much too the civ, until we get to that stage in the development.

All of the basic xml files associated with adding a new civ in addition to python, I presume, due to every civ being assigned a religion. Any other odd files?

python should no longer be required, as religions are now handled in the .dll

you have to set it in the favourite religion in the leaderhead file.

adding a trait for the civ in the traitinfo file.

Can't think of any others, but I haven't added a civ in the new version, so I don't actually know for certain yet.

Okay. I'm having a installation problem. I am unable to activate the mod due to continuous game crashes when I try to. I was wondering if this is me doing something wrong or if my game is screwed up. Thanks!

Hi Ninja, if you could PM me with the details of what you did that would help.

Are you on a steam version and are you using windows 8.1?

I found that 8.1 causes a random startup crash (my experience was about 1 in 3 goes.) I have no idea why, it was fine before I upgraded to W8.1!

I make a shortcut(if you PM I can show you how, or it is written somewhere around here as well) then just run it a few times and it works without issue once it gets over that hiccup.
No explanation why?!!?

Their might be a couple of little mistakes you made that might be the issue, but without more details it is hard to say. So PM and I will try to help you solve it. OK?
